Active duty military family here. The gyms are open but the pools within the gyms are not. Not worth it to me to buy a one day $10 pass to the ymca to get in a short swim, nor is it worth it to me to buy a ymca membership to our town's junky ymca. I'll just wait for this to be over.

I know many of you run in national parks which are now shut down. Just wanted to see if anyone else in tri-world was affected

I am not being derailed by closed facilities, I'm being derailed by being "essential" which means an extra day of work per week. ..and extra 10 hour day. and with all the non-essentials gone, our boss is doing a lot of screaming and cussing at those of us that are working for not doing the work of 4 people faster. not good training conditions at all.

I have a 13.1 in the Daniel Boone Natl. Forest that will have it's start moved to a nearby state park to accommodate the shutdown. So more like 14.3, but missing a huge climb. Sorry for those hit for real by this mess.

Had a nice run in the closed national parks around my house yesterday morning (I'm a scofflaw that way!), until I turned an ankle in the middle of a trail maze.  Thought, "Hmmm, I might be here until the government reopens.  Oh boy..."

(true story, but made it out just fine, if covered in dirt)

Really hasn't affected my training otherwise, except to raise my bloodpressure, perhaps.

Yep! I live in DC, so essentially every place I would run or ride is a national park. I got booted off Hains Point yesterday, but I've heard some cyclists got through today, so I'll try again tomorrow.

Frustrating, but at least I'm not affected directly by furloughs.

My lunch time pool workout was affected yesterday. The Miramar "Combat Training Tank" was closed.

I lost access to my next door national park for running and riding. They even put the word out that they are patrolling and they will issue tickets to anyone found on the grounds. So I'm running a bazillion tiny loops around my neighborhood because there isn't anywhere else to safely run or ride by myself. Inconvenient and boring, but I'll take it in stride as I think about the people that have been furloughed.

If they are going to patrol and issue tickets, why not open the park?

I spoke with a friend of mine who is a district judge and he told me he didn't know if the tickets would hold up in court. The rangers in my area are all furloughed the ones patroling the park and issuing tickets are volunteers. He questions their authority to issue a ticket since they are not on payed duty. He said all tickets issued by them in the shut down that comes in front of him will be thrown out.

I was watching the weather trying to decide on one last triathlon this Saturday. It is held at an Army Corps of Engineers park and the website says they have been forced to cancel. So glad I saved my money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm "essential" so I have to still work.  I'm not getting paid though.

It is National Park Rangers and also the County Deputies according to the newspaper -it specifically says the Deputies have jurisdiction because the park is within the county. Which makes me wonder why the City PD doesn't also patrol because the park is also within city limits. I just think it's a load of crap. As I told the Ranger that was giving me a warning, they would be better off allowing the locals (with annual membership cards) to utilize the park for recreation because it would put more eyes out there watching for the relic hunters sneaking in. I didn't live here the last time this happened, but apparently the park was raped and pillaged because everyone was sent home.

My upcoming race this weekend in Bartlett Lake Arizona has been cancelled due the shutdown. OWS, bike, and run are all on Forest Service land and the workers are on furlough. Got the e-mail Tuesday night.

There's a chance they will run it on the 20th if its funded by the 16th. If not, no race this year and no refund.

Not my training, but the race I was planning on doing this weekend (my first) was cancelled. I'm super bummed because I've been training for over a year to get to this point. Worst part--no refund and they'll be sending along the sweatshirt (as if I want the swag from a race I didn't do)--salt in the wound for sure.

I'm planning to do a "home-grown" tri instead. I just have to tackle the task of planning my own route.
