Home Road? Or Edworthy Park access?

Win sport/COP is my favorite for repeats.

Perfect for Hill Repeats while running trying to hold a 2:30 pace (7:30 mile).

You easily emulate hill riding by interval training with sustained efforts at high power output.

I am climbing hills to practice mainataining period of sustained effort. and push some of my bodies limits up.

Interval trinaing can be used to simulate this triaining but in reality it does not come close for me.

If I quit half way thorugh an interval I can roll along for half a mile and get sorted and try again.

If I quit halfway up my hill I am going backwards immediately. If it is during the 20% part I am off and walking. Knowing that makes the hill workout much more effective.

Local climb here down the street from me.  It is 1000' climb over 2.2 miles.  There are bigger ones around but they are a farther distance from me.

......in the area where I train, get your minds out of the gutter!  Southeast MI is pretty pancake-like.  You get the occasional rollers but definitely nothing with major gain around here.  I don't mind it that much since most of the racing I do is in state with fairly similar conditions.

You need to visit the UP of MI, they have some nice hills.

I sometimes wish that I had less hills. I climb almost 200 feet in elevation within the first .6 miles leaving my neighborhood.

Moved from NH to SW PA so I thought I knew how to climb... Was I ever wrong. Very different types of climbing around here. NH is long and steady, but around me, it's a constant up/down, just nothing flat to recover on. I have lots of short, but quite steep hills around me. Right around the corner from my house we have one that is 1/2 mile long starts off at 16% then flattens out to 12% before really killing you at 22%. For reference, my flat ride loop (short to fit in right after work) is 20 miles long and 2400ft of climbing, and that's the FLAT loop.

Tucson.  Mt. Lemmon.  5-7% grade for nearly 30 miles. this was last weekend's ride, I only went to the base of the ski area.  the top is at 9,050ft.  Smooth paved road the whole way.  Magnificent scenery.  350 days of sun a year.  I think I win?

Man...I would love to live near that.

But if anyone on Maui replies, they'll have you beat.  36 miles climbing 10,023 feet.  There is one short downhill that's less than a quarter mile, but other than that it's pretty much 5-6% up the whole way.

I wouldn't say it's the hardest climb, just the longest sustained one.  The rides that have constant steep climbs (even if you do get a downhill recovery) are the hardest ones IMO.

Hah!  yeah, I guess if someone chimes in from Maui, I'd concede my mountain.  Plus... they get to live in Maui.

I had to check who owns the Strava KOM for that!  (although I don't believe the "Dean Murdoch" name is real, even though it looks like a real ride from a pro level cyclist.)

I do repeats on the Edworthy Park access road. I'll have to give the Winsport road a try. Is this the same road as the Tour de Bowness link that you posted?

Ryder Hesjedal owns the unofficial record at 2:3X. Theres a you tube video if you search for it.

Chris Lieto did the race a couple of times and managed around 2:50.

yes... it is. Great for repeats. I'm racing the ITU Sprint worlds and this will a staple workout next season since the course is a tad hilly.

I live in WV, so good luck trying to find a flat spot. I have heard triathletes who are training for long distance races elsewhere complain that they can't find a suitable area to ride aero. I live on top of a hill with a 150' climb in the last half mile (less if I take the steep route). I work on top of a hill with about 120' in 0.4 miles. My favorite hill route climbs at a fairly steady 4% for 7 miles. A typical ride or run has 50-100' of climbing per mile.

I live in the Adirondacks in Ny, and can't find a flat spot either! I always have hills. I would love to have more flats!

I climb Col de Dead Possum just about every week. It's about 13% for half a mile. I dread it.

Where I live we have the guy who both owns the most Strava KOMs in the world and also has the most climbing feet per year (last year was about 2.5 million).

Yeah, we have hills. Lots and lots of them.

It makes no sense to train hard for a year to hone that aerobic system only to have all that training undermined by a few anaerobic bursts on race day. So, how do you go about it?
