I'm changing my ways and trying to run this Fall/Winter. What events of note are you doing? Here are three big ones I know of. While I know there seems to be a 5K each weekend, are there any others that are particularly noteworthy/fun that you recommend?

Kansas City Marathon and 1/2 - OCTOBER 19, 2013
Pilgrim Pacer Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K & 5K - NOVEMBER 9, 2013
Gobbler Grind Marathon, 1/2 and 5K - NOVEMBER 24, 2013 (I'm signed up for the 1/2)

Kansas or Kansas City area?

This link below has a good list of running events in mostly Kansas and western-ish Missouri. The bolded, larger font races tend to be the "bigger" races.

I myself will be doing the Gobbler Grind half.

A few of us did the Bison 50 relay a few years ago, that was pretty fun. You fast runners should put together a serious relay team and take the title, just sayin'....

I was planning to do the KC Full, but my training has been interrupted the last couple of weeks.  I may just do the Half now.  Reece, what pace do you plan on running?

Procrastinated, so I signed up for the gobbler grind. Plus, that way I can indulge on Thanksgiving with slightly less guilt.

My running has been dismal at best. Only 47 miles in September so pace will be 8:00-8:10 maybe. I'll probably hang with the 1:45 pace group then see how I feel around mile 9 or 10. No PR for sure. PF still lingering but hasn't acted up all summer/fall. Ran 10.4 yesterday, left heel sore, Taking today off, maybe run 3-4 tomorrow.

Pete's running is looking good. I think he can go low 1:30's if not below that. Looking forward to the advertised BBQ afterrwards.

Maybe I can tie a rope to him and try to hang on.  The tie the rope to a light pole with a mile to go and beat him! Cool

Of course pace is somewhat dependent on the festivities the night before .....

Whoa fellas. I have been running and am doing the half. BUT I am running with a neighbor who also likes to dabble in the booze. He already said he would pickup our packets so we could spend Friday afternoon at the local tavern hydrating.

So, I have a feeling it may be 1:45 this year.

Aaaaaack!  I went to register for the half and it is sold out!!!  I am such an idiot.  Yell  I guess I could sign up for the full marathon and make the best of it, but don't feel like I am fully trained for that distance.

Interesting, I was considering it as well. I guess I am not anymore.

I dont care, I have been running a lot lately. Probably 50mpw, but there are two things to think about 1)it costs 240 if we can sign up in the next 3 days, so 5 people would be best. 2)if we want to win we would probably need at least 4.

Brandon is getting married in Florida that weekend. I could ask him to postpone?

Well, that answers that for me. I am already signed up for the half Mary at Corporate Woods and was going to wait until Monday to see about signing up for KC half...I was thinking I would jump in at the last minute and blame any problems on it being "5 weeks too early".

They were running a discount for the relay and 5K, not sure if that's still applicable.

Know that base training is not a component of training that is going to necessarily make you faster, but it will make you stronger and give you more endurance to last through the longer races.

Knowing where the fluids are, how they will fit on your bike, how much to reach for, and when to reach for it should be understood prior to ever setting foot on the course.

Your training schedule should be based completely on the hours you have available to train, not necessarily on the number of hours you "need" to train.

Fall's also the time to shop! In fact, now's the best time to retool some of your triathlon equipment for next year, right before the Christmas season begins to jack prices upward.
