Anyone run the Emerald Isle tri? I am signed up for it and it will be my first ocean swim. I am a little nervous.

I did it two years ago. It's a fun race. The conditions are always an unknown since it's an ocean swim. We had pretty rough surf, but the day after was like glass. The bike is pretty flat and fast, and the run can be hot since there is zero shade. Have fun. I'd be doing it again if B2B wasn't the following weekend.

I want to do B2B next year which is why I chose to do this one this year. I just started triathlon in July. Prior to that I had only run.

I'll be doing it this year. First ocean swim during a race but I've done lakes before. Drove over this weekend to look at the locatin and the water was completely smooth. Hope it stays like that next weekend. Have a good race!

I thought the swim was brutal. Swimming is my weakest sport so I knew it was going to be hard but the current was killing me....

I enjoyed the swim. It was my fist race swim I'm a wetsuit designed for tri's and it helped tremendously. My last open water race was at the white lake Olympic and I had a much harder time. amazing what a difference a good suit makes.

Had a great time at Emerald Isle and beat my goal time for the race. Hope I'm back in time to do it again next year.

I also thought the swim went well. I'm thinking the tide must have been more in our favor since I averaged a 1:20/100yd pace...that's about 25 seconds faster than my normal pace and I felt like I went out easy. I guess with that setup, you'll get the angry side of the tide on one side or the other though.

I had some kid latch onto me for the second half of the bike which was pretty aggravating. He just sat on my rear wheel saving energy until I made him pass me long enough to set up to drop him on one of the slight inclines. I knew from previous races that he had a 21:00 5k in him so the last thing I wanted to do was help him save his legs. Didn't pay off for him in the end though.
