Age Group Rank = 4/10
Pre-race routine:

The usual oatmeal and coffee
Event warmup:

A 1 mile jog, and a 10 min dip into the lake
  • 26m 32s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 37s / 100 yards

nice swim
What would you do differently?:

more practice
Transition 1
  • 00m

slow transition. had to throw on some extra gear for the cool morning bike ride.
What would you do differently?:

put on my socks ( more to come) and be more prepared for cold weather
  • 1h 19m 33s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 18.74 mile/hr

more hilly and windy than expected. After about a mile my toes went numb because I forgot to put on my socks. Other than that, I feel was able to pace myself, leaving some energy for the run
What would you do differently?:

wear socks
Transition 2
  • 01m 3s

no flying dismount because I couldn't feel my feet. Also spent extra time removing my jacket.
What would you do differently?:

wear socks
  • 54m 21s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 08m 46s  min/mile

It took me about 2 miles to get feeling back into my toes. After that I was fine. A lot of hills running on game trails. It was a fun, but somewhat painful run
What would you do differently?:

wear socks
Post race
Warm down:

Just walked around and ate a sandwich

What limited your ability to perform faster:

the cold bike ride

Event comments:

Great way to end the season. A very scenic and challenging course

Sounds like this years temps were a lot like last year. I agree with you that it is a great course but definitely hilly on the bike and run.

Nice job

I looked at the swim buoys and start thinking, "Man! How am I ever going to swim that? That looks like a very long distance from the bridge. I have never done it in one go." There's no turning back.

After doing duathlons for the last couple of years, I decided to go for a triathlon. Starting with an Olympic-distance race perhaps wasn't wise, but it was fun (of a sort).

Experts agree, doing a “mock,” triathlon on the course you’re racing can aid you in your training; performance and most of all quell some nervous energy.
