Hey all,

I have a new pair of goggles and water keeps slowly creeping in, especially the left one. I have tried tightning and putting them on dry then wet, but nothting works. Bad suction or user error? I must wear contacts to train/race so this is bad as I have already lost a few pair.

Thanks,
Tony

you need different goggles.  Not every pair will work on every face.  I went thru many pairs before I found one that did not leak on my face.  Aggravating and frustrating.

Tri Mom is right, you will have to try different types before you find something that fits you. I tried dozens of expensive models and no matter what, they all leaked. So, I decided to buy a cheap pair of TYR Technoflex 2.0 and I have not had any problems with them.

sometimes i've found that tightening only makes the leakage worse....

try to have the straps just tight enough to keep the goggles on, also you can try putting the strap higher or lower on the back of your head.

These options arent going to fix an awful pair of goggles, but they've saved me from going out to get a new pair of goggles a few times... and if you do end up getting some new goggles, always give 'em a little test in the store if possible, suction them to your face and look down, (w/o the strap behind your head) I think that the longer the goggles are able to stay sucked on your face before falling off, the better they fit your face.

I hope all goes well and you keep the chlorine out of your eyes!

have u tried adjusting  the diopter?  usually goggles (at least tyr) will have the 'between the eyes' adjustments too...i have to adjust those BESIDES the headstrap with new pair then no problems.

have you tried the silicone or rubber ones? The foam ones are all leaky....I also wear contacts, so non-leaky goggles are a must. I have a pair of TYR for $10 that are pretty good.

I've got a pair of Barracudas that I love. I don't like the color, but the function of them is great.

Check them out.

I went thru so many goggles trying to find ones that would seal so I could swim with my contacts in. It was so aggravating. I finally got a SEAL mask. It works perfectly. I wouldn't trade it for anything. Hope you find something that works good for you. Good Luck !!

I wear the $4 "Swedish" goggles that just about every racer in the world wears. They don't leak, but you either love them or you hate them. They are totally minimalist with no foam or rubber edging. The eyepeice stays in place by being tightly pressed against the eye socket. For the cost, it's worth trying them if you are ordering another pair (trisports.com has 'em).

If all else fails - go with a Seal Mask. They look silly at the pool but definitely won't leak. Think SCUBA mask.

Thanks for the responses gang! My goggles are an $11 pair of Speedos (one piece so can't adjust in the center). Guess I will have to purchase a new pair and try them out.

Thanks again,
Tony "waterlogged"

Same problem, I spent about $50 on gogles, ended up with a pair of EXSL. They have a combo eye cup, kind of coregated rubber with a comfey foam pad, and the strap is split so it stays put and distributes the wat the lens is pulled agains your eye. About $10 at Big 5 Sports.

hi, I recently had my goggles(Nike, bad joo joo) totally fall apart, eye cup fell off which is really difficult to get back on and the strap buckle came apart and fell off, so I went to Wally world and tried on every type of goggle to check for fit. Ultimately the ones I chose were a pair of Auqa Seal goggles the same company that makes the Seal mask, they are the greatest, 180 degrees of vision great seal, the cups cover a good part of the eye orbit, and they have cams that hold the strap in place, they also have uv protection. They were kind of pricey 12 bucks but I ended up buing 2 pair, thats how well I liked the way they work in the water
