Here area few of mine, interested to hear others people have!

“What one man can do another can do” Anthony Hopkins in The Edge.

Recently tossed back at me by a good friend when discussing a 50 mile race. Months ago discussing a spring marathon with him he was very unsure about ramping distance and matching my pace. I explained I had been at it longer and he was ahead of where I was at the same stage. He wasn’t convinced so I simply said “LOOK what one man can do another can do”

He is much more fit now and running very well. Recently he mentioned trying an ultra; first attempt a 50 mile running race late next year. I am signed up for IMWI but still the idea of a 50 mile foot race sounds crazy, I was not convinced. He then blurts out the same quote I used on him several months ago. Fitting.

“Never give up, don’t ever give up” Coach Jimmy V just a few weeks before he died from cancer.

He was probably referring more to the fight with cancer and illness but I think it fits in any struggle. Certainly fits for those of us set on finishing an Ironman

“AMRAP” Or As Many Reps As Possible.

This is one my cross fit friends use, not one I would live by as an endurance athlete… Thought about it this morning doing pushups and sit-ups. I have a 20 mile run today, last one before a marathon attempt. Did I really want to do AMRAP? No but I still like it.

It is in my sig line.

I mean, really, who can argue with the statement "none of the secrets of success will work unless you do?"

I got it out of a fortune cookie, probably 27 years ago when I was a teenager. It resonated with me. I taped it to my mirror and have tried to remember that quote through all my life experiences. Applies to triathlon, work, relationships, pretty much everything. If you want to be successful at something, anything, you had better be willing to work for it

That mantra has gotten me a long way.

"The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now"

This tends to get me kickstarted after I've procrastinated.

I know it's an older quote and out of direct context, but here's one I hold on to:

"If there is no struggle, there is no progress." – Frederick Douglass

This one keeps me going on the days that I'm not feeling training and/or work.

If it is to be it is up to me.

I hung this in my closet where I saw it everyday while I was training last year.

The gorilla one gave me my morning chuckle. These have all been fantastic, it takes so much motivation to train like we all do and sometimes a little will power comes in handy as well.

Not sure who said this one. Saw it in a discussion of some pictures of young athletic people. Keeps me motivated to work out especially as I approach the age.

"At 25 it's what you were born with, at 45 it's what you earned."

Lot's of good ones already posted. My favorite is from Henry Ford:

"Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t – you’re right."

I like accountability individually and as a leader.

This is a religious quote, but very motivational.

"God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference".

I use this when unexpected things happen to me during a race. It puts things in perspective... you can't control everything, but control what you can and adjust to the things you can't. I put a piece of masking tape on my top tube and have "Serenity, strength, wisdom" written on it as a reminder to always keep a good perspective.

The one that my wife loves is;

"The wind is my friend, when it's with me, it makes me faster, when it's against me, it makes me stronger"

Although, sometimes, it becomes "the wind is my f*ing friend"... usually with a big smile though! :-)

"Run today so you can run tomorrow."

Somebody here said this, but I don't remember who. It reminds me to stay in shape and not do anything stupid or crazy that would get me hurt.

It's funny, there are so many people who hate even the thought of running, or even of jogging slowly! I can't imagine my life without it.
