Subject: SITE UPDATES OCTOBER 12TH

We had a rather large update tonight of a month and a half worth of bugs and features.

FIXES:

1 - Can hopefully 'start a race group' from blog on a few races that wouldn't allow it

2 - Can create custom plans in metric.

3 - Can print custom plans with the background images and graphics of the new site.

4 - We upgraded the WYSIWYG editor across the site as the prior version had issues that were making the site unstable for some that dragged photo's into the editor.  I didn't want to upgrade the editor, but we had to to disable this feature.  Let me know of any issues with this.

5 - Private message links in email notification should actually link now if logged in.  Still working on this.

6 - The 'new article' links in header should magically disappear after clicking on them.

NEW STUFF = VERY UPDATED MOBILE LOG!

*There WILL be mobile bugs. I have already found several. There is a lot of behind the scenes stuff to direct users to live or mobile site.  And essentially we are coding a new site.

1 - Added 'Race listings'

2 - Added mobile 'inspires' (go through 'training log' to see)

3 - Added a mobile private messaging system.

4 - Usernames are linked to options to: view training log, send message or inspire (YES, YOU CAN VIEW YOUR FRIENDS LOG ON MOBILE NOW, INSPIRE AND SEND PM'S!!!

5 - Add tags and equipment to mobile logging.

Again, there will be bugs on mobile.

Before you report, please make sure you clear your mobile browser cache so you have the most up-to-date code.

6 - Add overall comments (blog) to mobile log

UPCOMING MOBILE ITEMS

We are working on a friends list and a settings page.

Hi Ron - hate to be a negative Nellie as I know you guys are working very hard, but I for one HATE the you guys are forcing mobile users to the mobile interface. There are just too many key things that you can only do from the full site still (quote, reply to a particular post, etc). I like the old option where I could select to use the full site. Now no matter how many times I select that option it still pushes me to the mobile platform.

We are definitely not forcing an either or.  I'm sure it has something to do with your browser.  First, clear your mobile browser cache and cookies and try again - to make sure you have all new code - it should then respect the 'view full site' option if that is the problem.

If you are using and Ipad, Iphone

Go to 'Settings --> Safari --> Clear cookies and data

THEN make sure that you also have, 'Accept Cookies = From Visited'

If this is still a problem, let me know what OS/browser-version and device you are using that is forcing mobile even after using the 'view full site' button from mobile home.

I'm having some problems while navigating the forum on my iPhone.
I use the Google browser (blue G) and didn't have any issues before the changes (I've also tried Safari, and it's the same).
There is no way to navigate to the last post from the main page. I have to open the forum, scroll to the bottom, pick the page counter, then scroll to the bottom of that. Before, I hit one button.
There info on when the last post was made is now gone, along with the number of pages.

Hey Ron - I tried that first before posting. iPad2, iOS 7.0.2 Safari browser.

After reading your post I checked my iPhone 5s (iOS 7.0.2 Safari browser) and it actually works as advertised.

Rusty, did this get resolved on the Ipad 2?

Hi Ron - it did not. iPhone 5s works like a charm.

Hey Ron - I think you may be working on this as I have been getting varying degrees of success with the the preferences of mobile/full site sticking. IPad2 seems to be working better: here is what I did just in case you have not made any tweeks on your end that would change behavior.

1) Quit safari (these steps did not seem to work unless Safari was completely quit first).
2) under the safari "advanced" setting, I cleared all website data.
3) under safari settings, cleared cookies, history, and data. I imagine this is the same as step 2, but I did it anyway.
4) restarted the iPad. This also seemed to make a difference as to whether I could get the settings to stick - but again it may have simply been the result of work on your end.
5) launched safari and went to beginnertriathlete.com
6) the mobile site opens, then click on "view full site."

Now the "full site" preference sticks, unless I quit safari. If I quit safari, it goes back to the mobile interface when I re-launch and I have to re select the "full site" preference. Also, when I select "full site" it keeps the mobile site window open and the full site loads in another window - that does not seem like preferred behavior?

Also, when I follow a link from an email notification that a thread I am following has been updated, it will go to the end of the thread if "full site" was selected and safari has not been quit. (Good). If however safari has been quit the link opens the mobile site in the correct thread but on the first post (bad). Similarly if you use a bookmark that is formed so that it jumps to the end of the thread (&start=last) it works fine in the full site, but opens in the first page/post in the mobile version. A little bit of a drag in mentor groups, race groups, etc.

Finally, it appears that a little bug that I have been meaning to report may have been fixed: it has been that the links in email notifications were almost always going to the second or third to last page in a thread - now it looks like they are always linking to the actual page in which the updated post was made.

All of the above behavior is similar on both ipad2 and iphone 5s, iOS 7.0.2

Thanks Ron - hope that is somewhat helpful.

edited to fix all the ipad formatting in the full site editor. Oh the irony....

A bit of feedback on the WYSIWYG editor:

It is overriding the default "right-click" behavior of the browser. When Chrome underlines a mis-spelled word I can no longer right-click on the word to open the Chrome context menu and select the correct spelling.

Ron,

Can't seem to get the full site preference to be the default on my phone (BBOS10).

Tried clearing history, cookies, new bookmark but nothing seems to work. Once I get to the full site everything seems fine but it always defaults to the mobile site now.

Shane,

When does it default to mobile?  Is it when you click to go to forums...or is it ANY click anyplace (articles, training log, races, homepage) that sends you back to mobile?

Ron,

It seems fine once I choose to view the full site; then everything seems to keep me on the full site. However, whenever I navigate to BT (through bookmark or typing the address) it always defaults to the mobile site.

Interestingly, my PlayBook has no issues at all with always showing the full site.

Hi Ron,

Thanks for all the features.  Now sure if this is the right place to ask.  But I am having problem posting on forums or inspires using IE8.  I know... but it's my company computer and they refuse to upgrade....

Fine with Chrome at home.

What exactly is the problem with the inspires?  And when did it start?   Any screenshots would help to.

Can you first clear your browsers temporary internet files and cookies?  I thought we fixed that last week, though nobody ever really confirmed it.

Let me know.

Clearing cache, history, temp files, cookies... didn't work.  Inspires are ok.  But can't type in the forum box or blog.

Apparently Socks has the same problem when using a work-provided computer with older OS and software.

D.K.,

Can you try again after clearing your cache, we think we found the issue.

Let me know.
