Subject: What shoes do you wear?
For running I mean.

I wear size 16 US. I've stuck pretty close to New Balance, since they're the only ones that ever seem to stock the big stuff. I've been wanting to try minimalist shoes for a while, but the last couple of pairs I liked weren't made for big fellas.

My favorite is going into a shoe store, and the person asks what I'm interested in like I have options. I've learned to just ask what shoes they have in my size and then take a look at the two or three pairs they bring out.

I'm 6'6, so being able to shop online has been great, ha.

I wear 13US (I am 6' 3"). So am lucky that pretty much every mainstream shoes comes in my size.

I have stuck with Asics GT 1000 series as I want good cushioning, good stability and am on a budget.

GT 1000

Might step up to the GT 2000 if I feel rich this winter.

I go New Balance too.... But I have wide hooves (EEE width) and at 230+ I punish my shoes when I run. Nikes and Asics just seem to wear out quicker. I was a victim of marketing a few weeks ago and bought some Adidas Energy Boosts. They feel great, but I don't have enough miles in them to see if they are up for the beatdown my frame and sloppy running form can bring.

What's the size comparison like going over to Asics? I was thinking of trying them out, but it's a lot of money to spend on something that might not fit (even in the store they still have to order them).

I'm more like a 15.5 in New Balances. So the option so far is a little too small or a little too big.

I wear Hoka One Ones. They are UNREAL. At my weight I've always had trouble running distances but my last half marathon I did the entire thing without taking a single walking break. Even ran the aid stations. They look a little goofy but so does a one piece spandex suit so who's to judge.

Minimalist shoes typically will not have big cusiony soles. If you are a heel striker and want to go to a mid foot striker (reason for minimals) make sure you take it slow, as you will be using new muscles that can fatigue fast.

I don't know how big they come in, but I wear Newtons. they have a minamal drop of 4mm heel to toe. I am 6'4" and 250. wear size 14 newtons and they work great. they are on the pricy side, but if you are running correctly, they last a long time.

Asics Gel Nimbus - 6'2" 255 lb's. I've switched to a midfoot/forefoot strike which has helped a LOT. I've heard a lot of people here on the site praise Brooks Beast. In the past I've had good luck with New Balance, but I don't want to jinx myself by switching shoes. I'm doing fine at this point.

I buy Brooks Beast, but that is what I find most comfortable on my foot.  I don't have your size 16 problem, but even 13 are tough to get.  I was buying 12.5, but went back to my running shoe store and had them check my size with their equipment and said 13, so now I look for 13's.  I don't know if Brooks even go to size 16, but really would say find the sizes and try the shoe.  I used to love Asics and they don't work for my feet anymore, so I ended up with Brooks.

I dont think I have the experience to compare sizes. But I do know that Asics can compare larger than some.

The Brooks ca website has a tool called shoefitr:

It shows a compariosn between what you run in now and any model of thiers. Including where the extar or less space might be felt (snug toes, tight midfoot etc).

I currently run in Brooks Ghost, but I wear a 13 so don't typically have size issues.

Really want to try the Hoka's as my office mate just bought a pair and loves them.

I alternate between K Swiss K Ona's and New Balance 903's.

I live in Southern California, so I have the option of going to the Road Runner Corporate Headquarter's store and warehouse.

Started with the Hoka One One Speed B2 couple of weeks ago. So far so good. Was in Brooks Glycerin 9 past 2 seasons, I can't find them anymore. Anyone seen these Brooks around online recently?

I wear Newtons as well. Love them. I used to have big, heavy shoes with thick heal cushioning and orthotics. I am now a forefoot striker running in minimalist shoes with no orthotics and loving it. They too a long time to convert to; but I wouldn't run in anything else.

I wear Hoka One One Stinson Trail shoes for running and really like them. The trail version has a slightly stiffer sole which I like. I previously ran in Brooks Beasts and Brooks Trance 12. My feet feel SOO much better in the Hokas. BTW, I a 6'6" and weigh 230 pounds.

Asics Gel Nimbus size 14. I'm switching to the Gel Cumulus this year since I'm trying to work on my mid-foot strike. I am not a Clyde. I teeter between 210-215ish 6'2. Hope this helps

You should also have some one at a running or tri specific store check your walking/running style(pronation). That makes a difference too. I trained and ran a half marathon at 200+ lbs. I needed a stability shoe due to my pronation style and ended up with ASIC gel kayanos. Loooooooooved them! Put 500 miles on them easily without much sole breakdown. Now I run in vibram five fingers. Takes getting used to, but my knees, hips, and ankles are so much stronger and my plantar fasciitis is gone.

What to wear under the wetsuit? What to wear for the bike and the run? Good thing someone invented the wonderful trisuit, to which we’ve become accustomed. It’s supposed to make our lives so simple.
