Swim

  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 12s / 100 yards
Comments:

I had to sit around as I was the very last wave. I watch the current from the first wave and got really excited the current was very fast. I was starting to think a 17 minute swim. Well I sat and I sat and I sat, and watch the current slow and slow and slow...by the time my wave came, did I mention it was last?, it was really not much left to it. I should have alse had more food while I waited, by the time I started and when I ate it was about 3 hours. I hope I don't get that last wave next year. The swim started terrible for me, I used goggles that really sucked (I should have learned my lesson with these goggles by now) Any way the leaked something terrible. The left eye was filled with water and I had to swim with it like that and the right eye was half filled, I stopped 3 times to let it out in the 1st 200 yards, then I had to stop and tighten the straps. I also got a mouthful of water in the process, Hudson river YUCK!, I had to suppress myself from throwing up, which I did. After the final adjustment, I kicked in the swim a little harder and had a good finish, I was lucky to get under 20 Minutes.
What would you do differently?:

First, If I am schedule to be the last wave on a race this big, I will be sure to eat at a differnet time. I would have also set up my transition the night before and slept later ( i was there early because My wife's wave was at 6:30am)
Transition 1
  • 04m 43s
Comments:

I was in such a rush. I felt good. I went to go with my bike and realized, hey, I don't have any bike shoes on. Lost maybe 10 seconds. What a silly think. (run from swim to Trasition was LONG)
What would you do differently?:

I am going to try having shoes already on bike.
Bike
  • 1h 17m 13s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 19.31 mile/hr
Comments:

I loved the Bike, the only complaint was the second turn around, I could not understand why they had it. We could have went a little further in the Bronx to make up the distance. Any way I enjoyed the bike tremendously.
Transition 2
  • 01m 22s
Comments:

I had a great transition. I stopped to take enduralytes. next time I will take them exiting tran area.
Run
  • 52m 17s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 25s  min/mile
Comments:

It was hot. Second part about being the last wave, we did not have any shade on the first mile. Temp must have been slightly higher as well.
What would you do differently?:

Not much, have a little more enduralytes. I had some slight cramping, I blame that on having not ate breakfast closer to race start.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Breakfast ate it 3 hours before, I should have had something else to eat closer to start, even a gel.
