Hey all-- wondering about Seattle-area open water swims. Do people do these year round? If not, when do they start up again?

Definitely not year-round. Brrr!

But... I only know of a few -- Fat Salmon in Lake Washington, Lake Samish in Bellingham, and there's one near the SeaTac airport at Angle Lake. All of these are in the summer, though. I'm sure there are others, and checking the swim forums might get you a lot more selection.

The open water swim season generally only runs from mid-May or so through about mid-September. I've been in as early as mid-April but rarely past mid-September. It really depends on the spring weather as to how soon folks start hitting the lakes. Neoprene hoods, gloves, and booties can extend the season a few weeks on either end but it's still a pretty short season.
