This is a report from "on the ground" here in Panama City, site of IMFL this weekend and apparently, the Prince of Bahrain is racing this weekend. He just rolled up in 20 plus Cadillac Escalades here on the beach. He's also already booked 20 massage therapists for the week for he and his staff. Staying just out of town on 30A. I hope he gets a good sampling of our local fine southern hospitality and cuisine!

I wonder if he'll ride his bike himself or get a private tent in T1.

Seriously, though... kudos to him as long as he isn't expecting any special treatment from the race officials.

I used to live in Bahrain - special treatment comes with the title.

He was meeting just now with CEO of IM. Nice size entourage.

Water is perfect today at IMFL on the beach. But temps in 80s. Supposed to rain FRI night and hopefully cooler temps SAT.

I think there's like 50+ people who have the title "Prince of Bahrain".

Seriously.

Yea, I think you're right. We googled that and found out. I couldn't point it out on the map. I just thought it might be of interest etc. Nobody here would know him if he walked through the mall by himself.

Not sure how many princes Bahrain has, but this one arrived in a private 747 and has photos on the net with Michael Jackson, Tiger Woods and countless celebs etc. Looks like he should have brought his floaties though.

Sheik Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa and Sheik Mohammed bin Salman Al Khalifa are racing. Not Salman bin Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa (the person that you most likely saw in pictures).

Fancy that. Racing with celebs can be neat.

But it shouldn't bother your race if all the normal rules are followed.

Good luck to everyone out there.

You mean the princes that have been accused of serious human rights violations for torturing athletes?

Bibs #1253 and #1254. Their bodyguards will apparently be with them start to finish. Makes perfect sense: I get disqualified if my family runs across the finish line with me and these guys get to bring a whole team.

I think they will get special treatment start to finish unfortunately because I personally wish that every other athlete would have the chance to hurl insults at them as they go by.

Actually, I feel kind of bad for the other racers because there will most likely be protesters out on the course because these guys are there. That's not a great vibe for an Ironman run. Apparently their bodyguard team can get pretty physical with protesters so hopefully nobody gets hurt.

And the same ones who raced with their entourage in a 70.3 race in Europe. I don't have a link but it is rumored that there human rights protesters on the course and his body guards assaulted them.

For someone carrying these allegations into the race with their background I would care. I don't get why WTC has allowed them to race, or why the US government has allowed them into the country for that matter. This could be a huge disruption to the race and will make the security of the race very interesting.

They are going to have a security entourage through the race?

Often it makes sense to race slower in order to finish faster and at the same time have a more enjoyable Ironman Triathlon experience.

Already a cyclist and not a bad swimmer, I figured all I had to do was build up to running a few miles and I’d be ready to go. The challenge invigorated me, and I ran out to buy new running shoes.

My thinking was that with three events, I could vary my training enough so it wouldn't grow stale prior to seeing positive results and finding the additional motivation I needed to continue training.

The goal is to get stronger while your swim, bike and run training schedule is relatively light and you can afford to hit the weights hard a couple times each week.

After you have established the Ironman goal, the most important factor outside of the training is which race to choose? What is your best sort of course, hilly, rolling, flat?
