Subject: The BT Inside Jokes Reference Thread

In light of recent discussions, I thought it might be nice to compile a list of our inside jokes, common answers, and other obscure references that we tend to make here so that new members can be in the know.

I'll start with a favorite stock answer of mine.

"Bike a lot, mostly fast, sometimes easy"

Volume is important on the bike, but what is more important is the quality of your rides. You need to ride faster to get faster. Interval work, hard rides, and long rides are all vital to improvement on the bike.

Also T.I.T.S. stands for Time In The Saddle.

TAN is the Thread About Nothing - just random ongoing conversation that happens in COJ (cup of joe - off topic forum) as well as POSSIBLY the most hated thread on BT.

Common answers and BT "colloquialisms" are fine, but never explain an inside joke. Ever.

Yes, because they contribute to your water feel, your streamline and body position, and the flow of your workout.

(we should try to answer/explain as we go so a new member will understand why this answer is given to them)

are you starting this debate here in this thread???  cause flip turns are nice but far from necessary.  saying they are is CERTAINLY not a beginner-friendly suggestion.

These seem to be more FAQs than "inside jokes..."

Site owners have many times said they don't support FAQs or "sticky answers" because they want beginners to feel free to ask questions without a standard "GO SEE THIS THREAD NOOBIE" answer. With questions being re-asked it also gives newer members an opportunity to add alternative answers and experiences.

+1

People feel compelled to throw that in when the relative merits of bikes are discussed.

This calls for an appropriate use of one of my favorite BT commonly used references:

I'll try posting the magic word in sarc font, so that it doesn't start a 20 page riot:

Well the OP is already trying to argue about flip turns in his own thread. Strange joke, you're right - I don't get it.

Ironically, those threads ended up having some really good discussion in them.

I like the off-beat questions and hypotheses that some people post, because they tend to get the rest of us thinking more.

See, I tell people that Lance never did it either, and no one believes me!
