Bought a $1000 couch today.
*sigh*
There goes my new bike.

At least the wife is happy.

Every one of my hobbies seems to be.

But most, note MOST, of them are worth it.

Both me an my wife are multi-sport athletes (her, triathlete, me, much more of a duathlete that only swim when I have no choice). We also collect wine (which can be quite expensive), we downhill ski (which is far from free), and I'm also an audiophile with a home theater as well (both can drain your bank account quickly). So yes, it seems like all our hobbies are expensive, but the good thing is that we do them all together.

My other interests are as expensive, if not more expensive, than triathlon.  I never seem to have enough fly fishing gear and I just put a new engine in my '69 Chevy C10 (and carb, and exhaust, and three-point seat belts, and gas......).

White water kayaking. Figured it would be cheap after I bought all the stuff, but driving 5 hours from central KY to the mountains keeps piling up.

My mountain biking obsession. I didn't realize when I took up mountain biking that mountain bikes are so damn expensive.

International Adoption.  Been writing checks for the past few months, and will write a few more next year.  Mark this one in the "totally worth it" category!

If you do it right, they can be tri-related.  Of course, this just makes them that much more expensive.

Guitars. At any point in time, you can find 4 or 5 in my house. But I've worked my way through at least a dozen over time.

I manage to always find hobbies that cost a lot of money.

Golfing
Shooting
Building/Flying RC Airplanes
Triathlon
Darts (ok, this one is really cheap)

The cause of the sleeplessness could be anxiety to get out and compete but more often than not the inability to sleep is a fear of what might happen, of what might go bump out on the race course.

I couldn’t help but feel that the race had beaten me. Perhaps duathlons were more for me? No, I was more determined than ever to succeed. I was determined to get on top of my swimming.

I couldn't believe that my splits kept getting lower! I started to run harder after I passed the "5 km" sign and picked a few people that I wanted to pass.
