All - been meaning to post something about this for a while - in case you haven't seen it, Coach Robert Wilhite is proposing starting up a Winter Bike League for mere mortals and wrote a post about it on his blog here. He has received a lot of good feedback and is moving forward with plans to get it going. If you have any comments or would just like to keep up with it check it out. I am not affiliated with Robert n any way, but read about this (and commented) last week via the Virginia Highlands Velo group and thought the BT gang in they ATL metro area would also have folks that might be interested.

It seems cool. I read this when you posted it in the VH velo group. How do i make sure I'm up to date on the schedule/plans?

I don't subscribe to his blog, but I am following that particular post. I am happy to follow up in this thread as plans develop.

Well, it seems they got this up and running fairly quickly. The first ride is in two weeks on Saturday November 30th. I most likely won't make that one as I think we will be traveling for Thanksgiving. For those familiar, the Ride start is the same as the Sunday morning Airport Ride: 253 Peters St SW, Atlanta, Ga 30313. You can get all the details here: http://mycyclecoach.wordpress.com/2013/11/13/update-winter-bike-league-for-recreational-riders/

Ok, I get the idea, but doing 35 miles at 14 MPH would be like pulling my teeth out.  I may join in Jan. when the pace is up and the distance is longer.   I think it is a great idea.  I sincerely hope they are successful and stay safe.    it would be interesting if they can stay 2s if lots of people decide to attend.   Going though lights could be a real challenge.

I support the intention of this and expect many participants will be 'beginner triathletes'. Yes Capt, 35 miles at 14 would be tough. I think the first ride, Nov 30, will be shorter. A group of us are riding from Dunwoody high school at 8:15, 15 miles to and from the start at 17-19 mph, for a total of 50-60 over 3-3.5 hours. A goal of this ride is teaching people how to be a 'steady wheel' in the peloton, so we're going to help set a good example. Come join us.

Check that, more like 73 miles over 4 hours. 1st hour at 17-19, 2 hours at 14-15, 4th hour at 17-19. Off season, base building.

Forecast now says temps in 40's, clear.

This probably deserves its own thread but I'm going to do a small hi-jack:..

There's a separate group doing the Sunday Airport Ride that leaves at 10:10. It's a base-building ride, 18-20ish. Short route is 37miles, long is 73.. I've jumped in the last two weeks and the ride's dynamic is exactly as advertised: base building with just a few spots that move your HR out of Z2. It's a good bunch of riders and for those who'd like to join a peloton to break up the tri-bike routine a chance to do the Airport Ride without the hysterics.

10:10am Sundays from Trinity Lofts at Castleberry Hill near downtown(the main group leaves at 10am - if you take off with that group by accident, prepare to suffer).
