"Idgie"

July 27, 1999--November 16, 2013

Idgie was our old girl.  Her registered name belied her true nature.  She was friend to all and would wag her helicopter tail at you if you smiled at her.  She made it through two winters with chronic pneumonia.  Unfortunately, because she would rub her face to scratch her stuffy nose, she created a corneal ulcer.  Despite aggressive treatment, today it ruptured.  The only treatment is surgical removal of the eye.  But due to her pneumonia, she would not have survived the surgery.  So we made the decision to end her pain.

Idgie was an agility dog; my partner and she went to the world championships twice.  They were an amazing team: Idgie, while not fast, was incredibly consistent.  She had a form of cancer at age 5, but with surgery and 2 rounds of chemo, had no further issues.  That was Idgie.  Stoic, strong and wise.  She was so serious--our other Staffies are funny and have senses of humour.  Idgie would play, but was always the stern matriarch of the family.  She will be dearly missed.

I hope you have found Oreo, Idgie, and you are hanging out together as you did in life.

So sorry for your loss. Sounds like a great pup. My old girl is getting up there and I'm starting to think about "that day". It's always rough. :-(

I'm sorry.  There is not much worse than losing a great dog as far as I'm concerned.

So very, very sorry, Kirsten.  There's no doubt in my mind that Idgie found Oreo and they are raising Cain in the afterlife!  (((hugs)))  It's crazy how attached we get to the little furballs, isn't it?

Thanks everyone.  Melanie, the funny thing is that they would likely just curl up together and hang.  They were two of the gentlest souls ever and rarely needing scolding.  MAYBE they are chasing some poor squirrels or bunnies.  That thought makes me smile actually.  They do indeed find their way into our hearts.
