Subject: I am an Ironman!
As of 11:58:32 last night I am an Ironman! Thanks to my family and an Ironman staff member who was part of one of the sweeper crews I was able to dig deep for something that I wasn't sure I had and run the last 2.5 miles and finish in time.

At about mile 9 of the run I developed huge blisters on the balls of both feet. Every step from then on felt like I was stepping on hot coals and I knew running or even walking fast wasn't going to be an option. My daughter started walking with me at about mile 17 with her help I was able to grind it out for another 7 miles. I did the math and knew at the pace I was hobbling along I wouldn't finish in time. I told one of the guys in the sweeper cart that was following us I didn't think I could make it and if they could just give me a ride the rest of the way in. He said that they were here for me and if that's what I wanted they would be more than happy to give me a ride. He jumped out of the cart and said that he thought I still had a shot at making the cut off and that he would go the rest of the way with me. I started thinking about all the training and all the sacrifices my family had given the past year and how pissed I would be if I didn't do it! It was the most excruciatingly painful 2.5 miles I have ever ran but it was also the most amazing.

Way to go!!!

I saw you going through the aid station at about mile 13 on the run. I was thinking about if that sweeper cart behind me would either motivate or de-motivte me.

I'm so glad to see you made it!!!

Congratulations IRONMAN!

Awesome! I think what makes this sport so special is the people who are willing to commit and dig deep to accomplish a goal.

I've never done a full and I find it inspirational the way you describe pushing through the pain & all the hard work, sacrifices etc paying off. So awesome.

During the race there will be plenty of opportunities to exchange bottles, so I'm thinking about going with the aero bottle and Gatorade bottle and fill up as necessary. What should I do?

I went into the pool area (as this was a pool swim) and got body marked. That's when it hit me that I was there to race - this was not a clinic.

If a heart patient can do these things, then so can those of you who haven't been split open like a fish and sewn back together.
