Subject: Compression Tank for HIM
Hello Everyone!

First post here. Just signed up for my first HIM at the Vineman for 2014. I've done a few Sprints and i typically go shirtless during the swim and throw on a Nike Compression shirt in T1. I've ordered and tried some Tri Tops and find they all ride very short, almost midriff on me. They typically sit just above my waistband of the shorts....is this typical? I'm 6'2" and I suppose this fits "ok" but i don't want to be constantly pulling down my jersey to readjust throughout the race. Any ideas, suggestions? Thanks!

-Michael

I have always worn a trisuit for my (one) HIM and all the shorter races. That takes care of the bare midriff look. I am also 6'2". I noticed that Desoto has longer tri shirts, but I haven't tried them yet. Don't know if anyone else makes them.

Some tri tops are made longer than others, do some research on this and you will find the longer ones. The DeSoto top I have is pretty long (comes down short of my hips), and is very compressive.

I'm 6'1" and had the same problem until I switched to a trisuit.  The best tri top I had for length was a 2XU one but there were others from 2XU that weren't as long.  It drove me nuts too.

I can't imagine what it's like trying to get a compression shirt on in T1 while you are wet!

I'll look into those! I figured its possible to start with a compression tank and wear it throughout...under my wetsuit, etc. its made of same materials and composition as tri tops, just without the pockets and zippers. I would think it would work the same....

I had the same problem, I went with the Desoto and it is longer then any other tri top I have tried. It's my go to when actually racing.

Great to hear! And yes, it's true, we make our tops longer for both men and women - after all, if you're a woman and you want your midriff showing, you can always pull the top up or wear a sports bra and if you're a man, you can take your shirt off (well...most of the time these days.) Our tops are made long to protect you from the sun and keep you comfortable. Let me know if you have any specific questions, [email protected]. Thanks!

I wear an Orca 226 tri top which is a little longer.

And if you can get a compression top on in T1 you are the "man".

On the long bike rides of 80+ miles I get very strong pain in my toes. I slow down my pace and I might recover, but when I hit the next hill it is back. Could this be some kind of circulation issue?

Does compression clothing really work? Coach AJ was able to try out a line of compression wear by Skins during the 2008 Annual Hawaii Ironman Triathlon.
