Sunny
Total Time = 7h 30m
Overall Rank = 17/82
Age Group = F30-34
Age Group Rank = 4/15
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 5 at the hotel. Went over to Carol and Julia's room for breakfast. I ate 1 luna bar. Left the hotel after we finally figured out how to get the 4 bikes to fit on the bike rack. Found out that the water temp was near 90 so no wetsuits were allowed. Set up our transition area which you could set-up wherever you wanted. Had two hammer gels, advil, caff. pill and 2 endurolytes.
Event warmup:

Like usual, none!
Swim
  • 24m 18s
  • 1600 yards
  • 01m 31s / 100 yards
Comments:

I liked this swim. I was in the 3rd wave, W30-39, and was swimming all by myself because for once I was faster than the other girls! That was fun. Then I got caught up in the waves ahead of me. The nice thing is that for once I had to actually site, not just rely on the person next to me. Everytime I looked up the buoy was right in front of me! That was nice.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 1
  • 01m 22s
Comments:

Good transition. For the first time I didnt sit down to put on my bike shoes. I am taking baby steps with improving my transitions.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe practice leaving the shoes on the bike
Bike
  • 1h 18m
  • 23.5 miles
  • 18.08 mile/hr
Comments:

It was fun being the first woman on the bike course because everybody likes to say, "Good job you are the first woman!" Well that ended sort of quickly when I got passed on the bike about 7 miles in by a girl that was in two waves behind me! I skipped the water bottle exchange because it was set-up at the bottom of a hill and I was going to fast. That was a mistake. I should have put some water in my aero bottle. I got passed again right near the end. I pushed the hills way to hard. That hurt me later on. It is so hard for me to slow down and keep my HR in check.
What would you do differently?:

Take the hills easier. Relax. Drink more water.
Transition 2
  • 01m 22s
Comments:

Sat down to rest because I knew the run was going to be tough. Took water with me because I was thirsty! That is not a good sign
Run
  • 1h 00m 57s
  • 6 miles
  • 10m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

This was really hard and it started to get really hot. I was getting dizzy about half way done. It was a tough time. Had two gus during the run. I need to wear a fuel belt because I was having trouble getting the water down from the little cups.
What would you do differently?:

Drink more water
Post race
Warm down:

None

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Heat, lack of water, took the bike too hard. I was still underweight from dehydration several hours later. And I drank 5-6 water bottles.

Event comments:

Nice local race, with some stiff competition. The post race food was bagels and water. Wished they had a bit more variety.

It was just too hot to enjoy the post race activities.

Beautiful course!

Great race despite the heat. 1st out of the water and 4th AG are pretty impressive.

Great job despite the heat.  The run is never fun when it's hot and you're dehydrated.  You stuck it out and had a good race, though.  Awesome swim split!
