Is anyone else having troubles registering today? It seems the Active.com payment system is not working. (Or else my wife has maxed out every credit card I own...).

Yep....I probably tried 10 times this morning with several different credit cards, browsers, etc. Frustrating...but it appears to be an Active.com issue. I'll also send them an email and hopefully they can get it resolved today.

I figured out the issue. It was one of two things. At the bottom of the page, after the CC info, you have to verify the cardholder info. My name on my card reads Jon C. and the info was just Jon. I also changed my address, because for some reason it had my street address in twice, so i deleted the second one. It worked fine after that. BLACKFRIDAY13 code worked for $25 off.

Well that was frustrating. After you posted this I started trying again. I tried everything you stated without success. Finally, for some reason I unchecked the credit card box to "save for future use" and the transaction went through.

I've used Active.com many times for events and don't every remember having an issue.

Oh well I'm registered and for a great price. The real news, however is that I also registered my wife for the sprint tri. She's never done a triathlon and is unsure how she's going to finish the swim...but she loves challenges and we'll have fun training this winter.

Just registered. I had to try 3-4 times. The info that I had there previously was correct, no changes. I just kept retyping the same thing over and over again, it finally went through.

Thinking about this as a tune-up for Kansas 70.3... I did this race when it was the 5150 - what's changed since then?
I don't remember much about this race but just re-read my race report and it appears I really enjoyed it.

It's tough to say what's changed, because the last time it was actually held was when it was the KC 5150 in 2012. The 2013 version was cancelled because of the dark clouds. I think the course is relatively unchanged.

I attended the pre-race festivities last year and it was looking to be a very nice, well organized event, until the storm clouds started rolling in.

The map shown on the K.C. Tri's FB page looks exactly like the bike course from 2012. That's two loops with 3 turnarounds in each, so six turnarounds total. Not my favorite thing to do in a race but that's what the map shows. The onl real hill is on HIghgrove heading west for about 0.7 miles, average is about 4%, you do that twice.

Yeah, got mine. It is a pretty tight fit. I got a large, and either I am gaining weight or they are slim sizes. The long/high neck is a bit annoying as well. Like the design though.

Oh, and I noticed they left the price tags on. Those sweatshirts are not $125.

ha ha, I saw the price tag too. While they are nice, I agree...not $125. Maybe a little "marketing" going on there.... Mine is a little tight too, but I can't complain too much. I wore it for the first time this morning to the pool over a fleece and it worked fine.

I am misremembering about a sweatshirt.  Was it automatically free when we signed up, or is this something special for those who weren't able to race last year?

Lightning league. That's just one of the benefits that you're allowed to know about. The others shall not be spoken of.

Guessing everyone one here is planning (well mostly at least) to do the 2014 event. A few of my racing buddies
and myself from Des Moines are thinking of driving down for the event the evening before. Would you recommend based
on years past? Sounds like it's fairly well organized, but things have changed due to it not being the 5150.
This would be VERY early season for us since it stays colder up here a bit longer. We won't have ANY open water
swims in so would just be more for fun and to get our "feet wet."
Hope we can follow each others progress on here!

We'll, it's no Hy-Vee but in years past it's been a good event. Under new race management this year but same RD as two years ago when it was the 5150 so I'm expecting good things this year.

Reece, where did you hear this info? Who is the new management? I thought Cohen and Weaver owned it...

Same owners as last year, but they brought in a new RD. Two years ago it was put on by RR/Silverback and WTC/5150. I believe Sandy Cohen, who owns it now was the original owner.
