re-building the engine.   Dec. is an important build month.  I need to get consistent and add some volume.  The other focus is strength training.  I have a nice routine going.   I can tell the difference after just two months and the first month was light weight to adapt.  I know it will pay off in the spring.

Also, I am doing Hot Chocolate 15K in Jan, Thrill in the Hill Half in Feb and Publix Half in March.   I am not sure I will take any of them serious except the Publix half where I simple want to run faster than last year.

I'm focusing on running right now, not because its my weakness, its actually my strength, but just because I enjoy doing it. I felt a little burnt out on SBR all at the same time after Ironman Louisville this year, so I have been focusing on running for a 50k in January and for Tybee Run Fest (all 5 races) in February

Starting this week, I will be doing a lot of swimming and a lot of strength training and keeping bike and run in maintenance mode. I will roll back into more intense bike and run as we get closer the Spring.

Mtn bike handling skills, riding smooth and learning that the brakes are there to make you go faster, not slow you down.....

Spend time on the trails building the run leg power as well. Off-road, there is no such thing as a non-hilly course.

The overall plan is to still keep a balance between all 3 SBR, I enjoy the water and love the trails too much so it's tough to not want to dial one of the 3 legs back.

Back in the day, I used to have long-course races early in the calendar year, so the non-racing season would kind of merge with a build for whatever was next. Not much of an off-season for a long while.

Now that I'm at my leisure with nothing especially urgent to prep for until June, the focus is on letting the beat-up parts recover while not losing any more fitness than I can get away with. And definitely not gain any weight. Gentle doses of S/B/R, rinse, repeat; not too worried if I'm making myself faster for a bit.

I'm just trying to be consistent. Training schedule starts in January. Next year is going to be long with the Chattahoochee Challenge Half in April and IMCHOO in September. Trying to figure out how not to burn out!

x2!

2014 race season is planned and need to get back to running.  Might kick off the 2014 season with an early XTERRA in Key Biscayne, FL in February.

Hmmmm - Key Biscayne.... Miami in mid February with a warm ocean swim, sandy /tight and twisty bike course with a 4 mile trail run. Had a friend race it last year and enjoyed it quite a bit. Effort level for that course puts it squarely between a sprint and Olympic. Tempting, tempting.

Hickory Knob, SC will the first on my list this season, stringing races for 3 of 4 weekends in April - Hickory Knob/SC, Auburn/AL, Yargo/GA. That's my motivation right there to keep at it or else I will end up having to race my way into shape !

I've got those 3 on my schedule as well.  I think I'm more excited about a year of XTERRA races than I was about doing another full this past year.

I'm working on cycling through and through. Having a great time on the bike and really enjoying early morning, pre-traffic, rides. It's cold but helps build the foundation for fun later.

I got Cody to join my cycling club and he's teaming with some other guys who are really, really strong. I predict total domination of Cat4 and by season's end, these d00d's will be 3's without any doubt. Cody, you ever going to do a tri again?

Kind of what I've got planned, except that will do a few HIMs later in the year...none leading up to the big one in May.

I'm not worried about getting faster, just working so that I don't slow down as fast as everyone else!! :P

The off-season is the best time to fine tune your skills and prepare yourself for the next season. It is also time for you to gain some strength and get a little rest after a long season of training.

If you develop a strategy for the off-season, you can go into the next season stronger than you ended the past season.
