I am new to this as well - but here is the Monthly challenge:

1 point maximum per day achieved from at least 30 minutes of Swim, Bike, or Run. Tie breaker is total minutes of Swim, Bike, or Run achieved through the month. The tally board consists of a name, points, and minutes. Add your name if you want to play. Tally up the # of points you have achieved so far and your total minutes (formatted as hours:minutes:seconds).

Have a great May
Bruno.

You know those days when you just can't get yourself to do anything? That was today. Was supposed to do a swim at 5AM & a run at lunch. Skipped both. So tomorrow I will get up early & do a bike-run brick as punishment!

Jackie, good to see you here!

Afternoon 1:06' trail run today. A bit of rain, but happy it was cool. The feet are not good and that's why I chose the trail, they say it is more forgiving, although harder on the muscles.

I haven't fallen off the face of the earth! Monday ended up being a rest day, ran for an hour on Tuesday, Wednesday's 6 miles was interrupted about 4 minutes in by a spouse who was still trying to argue his point as I ran on the treadmill (and I eventually hit the stop button to yell back at him...good times!), and today was the last speedwork session before the marathon (9 miles in slightly under an hour and a half). I may or may not try to do Wednesday's miles on Sunday. We'll see.

In happy news, I picked my bike up after a tune-up today, and picked up one of those attachable book racks for the hours I'll be spending on the trainer this summer. My 9-year-old was with me when I got it at the store and her first reaction was "you're not going to ride the bike while reading a book, are you?!" Well, not outside, no.

Welcome Dennis and Drew!

Hi.
I would love to join if you still have room!

Name: Michelle (KittenJ)

Background: Dancing - competitive and fitness- for 15 years, completed a 10k and 5k marathon, competitive swimmer in school, off and on gym rat

Story: I have activity induced asthma so I accept jog/walking on my "runs". I have weak knees from years of dancing so I'm not horribly sure how I will fare with the bike portion. The swim though? Psh I got this!
I am a full time student, I work 50+ hours/week at a biomedical technology company and I try and squeeze in gym time every day.
I would love to complete my first triathlon for that goal, the badge on my sash of life and for a personal achievement. It's a bucket list thing, I'm sure i'll get addicted to it.

Goals: Lose body fat percentages, gain muscle mass, increase stamina and endurance, become more awesome

Family status: I have no significant other in a married sense, but I have a cat who thinks he's my son, does that count? In all reality, I have a supportive household that looks out for my best interest and who knows that, with the addition of this triathlon goal I'm squelching what little free time i have into the gym and they're worried for my well-being.

The triathlon I'm looking to do is the Lake Havasu Mar 2015 Arizona one.

Thanks :D

Welcome Michelle fellow BT newbie.

Does anyone here use a hot tub on a regular basis. I've tried it 3 times in as many weeks and I got to say that thing kicks my butt. I thought I could use it to help sooth sore muscles so I tried sitting in it for 10 minutes after a swim work out. I literally have to sit on bench beside the pool for another 10 minutes to recover before heading to the shower. And it doesn't just have short term effects,I'm pretty much useless for the rest of the day. I can swim for 45 minutes, run on a treadmill for another 30 and still not be anywhere near as tired compared to 10 minutes in the hot tub. Has anyone here had similar experiences or am I just an "odd ball" like my wife said?

Was getting excited for my Duathlon tomorrow until I received an email from the organizer with the following warnings:

- due to potholes a portion of the bike (.25m) is being routed onto a paved running trail, which means a complete bottleneck
- there's 15-20% grade at the bottom of which is a sharp turn so we are being cautioned to slow down (2 bike loops doubles the fun) or we won't make the turn.
- two races are being raced on the same course - a short and a longer Duathlon which means the likelihood of inexperienced athletes has increased (no issue with Newbies but the course needs to have capacity to support both).
- oh, and it is expected to rain.

This is a first time race so I am very concerned about safety, logistics, etc. Yeah, I can always treat it as a training day, but I'm dragging my a$$ out of bed early to have the opportunity to push it hard. Weather can't be controlled, but course layout is the responsibility of the RD. You shouldn't organize a race where potentially serious safety issues exist. 75% certain I will race.

Thanks for the opportunity to vent!

OK Joe, weather is always a concern and it changes the dynamic of your race. If raining it slows down your bike, but its good practice in case it rains for your HIM. As for the bike course, the layout makes it a more technical course, requiring you to use and hone the bike skills that you don't get to use on the flat out fast courses. I would still race it. Bad conditions racing is still more fun than a good day of work.
