Expert 1233 | Subject: Recommendations on a Tablet, Thin laptop, etc.? I fly constantly and use my laptop on the plane to watch videos. For those of you who also do this, you can understand my frustration (no room, have to store the laptop during take-off and landing, and if the person in front lowers their seat back then you're crushed). Thinking about a tablet or something small, thin, and light, but see that they only have limited storage (32GB) and wondering if this is enough for around six to eight hours of video. Still will need to take my laptop, so only need the ability to transfer files from the laptop to the tablet or whatever. Thanks |

Subject: RE: Recommendations on a Tablet, Thin laptop, etc.? I've got an iPad Mini with a 128 Gb drive. It would work rather well for exactly what you're looking to do. iPads are becoming standard to carry publications, maps and whatnot for flying is probably the only reason I got it but now I use it regularly for a whole lot more. |

Champion 7704 Williamston, Michigan | Subject: RE: Recommendations on a Tablet, Thin laptop, etc.? I have a kindle fire HD which I adore. The battery life is really good and I can download a full season worth of a TV show with space to spare although to be honest I have no idea how much storage it has. You can put movies etc on the amazon cloud then download when you want them on teh device, put them back when you are not using them. Works for me at least |

Pro 9391 Omaha, NE | Subject: RE: Recommendations on a Tablet, Thin laptop, etc.? So there are a ton of options when it comes to tablets and the others have given you lots of options to choose from. I always tell people to go by brand quality and then aesthetics, because they're all pretty much the same after that. If you need to use it as a computer as well as watching movies then a tablet will not foot the bill. A tablet is nothing more than a bigger phone as far as applications running on it, so you'll have a lot of trouble trying to do many work tasks. If you do need the laptop functionality then I'd recommend looking at some convertible ones that do both tablet and laptop mode. There are some cheezy ones out there, so be careful. We sell a ton of Lenovo Yoga 13's because they are very durable and relatively inexpensive. I bought one for my son when he went off to college. It's made it through one semester without a hitch, so that should be a ringing endorsement for durability. http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/ideapad/yoga/yoga-13/

Extreme Veteran 2261 Ridgeland, Mississippi | Subject: RE: Recommendations on a Tablet, Thin laptop, etc.? I still love my Asus Transformer Infinity. It's a tablet with a convenient keyboard for typing emails and such, it's very thin, and has great battery life (especially with the keyboard battery). |

I just bought my husband a Galaxy Tab for Christmas, and while we LOVE it, I would not recommend it for long battery life while playing movies, which would be an issue for using it for entertainment while traveling. |

Good to know. I was looking into maybe getting one. All I've used is my wife's work issued ipad 2 and that thing makes me want to smash it against the wall. |

i knew he'd use it mostly at home and school so battery life was not a big concern for us. the battery life is fine for web browsing, reading ebooks, some games, just video seems to drain it. |

My iPad Mini currently has about that much video stored on it and has around half of its capacity left. (32GB version.) Capacity wise, you could store LOTS more on an older iPod, but only some of us can stand to stare at the little screens on the Classics for extended periods. I've watched movies on the Classic in the past, but the Mini I think is a good size and fair capacity.

Champion 7136 Knoxville area | Subject: RE: Recommendations on a Tablet, Thin laptop, etc.? Best Tablets IMO Galaxy Tablet Asus Transformer Nexus 7 iPad Mini Kindle Fire Some of those allow for an external memory card to bump up the storage... if 16/32gb isn't enough, that's something I'd look for. Depending on how "in control" you want to be of your OS (I hate bloatware so it's a big deal to me) you will need to decide between what ROM you want (Android, Windows8, whatever apple uses now, etc) |

Sensei Sin City | Subject: RE: Recommendations on a Tablet, Thin laptop, etc.? I have an Ipad and love it just for what it is. Sort of a fun thing. For production? I don't see it since it's difficult to transfer files from my PC's at work and Home. SO, I have been looking (for fun) for something else. I'm not sure what your carrier is, but Sprint is offering a Galaxy Tab 3 for FIFTY BUCKS! It's the size of an Ipad mini and great for my work applications. I can even CAD on it. You also have to pay $15 bucks a month for 2gb of data transfer. That is plenty if you utilize the WiFi most of the time. |
