Went to gym early today to get in a long overdue swim. Thought that the Resolutioners would at least take New Year's Day off but noooooo. Many people in the pool, one nice lady had what looked like a shower cap on, and several were walking in the lanes devoted to lap swimming. *Sigh* gonna have to put up with this for the next 6-8 weeks until the motivation wanes and we can get back to normal. Just thought I'd get the ball rolling on what is a yearly discussion here at BT. Kinda a public service...

Started off with an easy group 5k with the team this morning followed by a polar plunge in the local lake, 57 degrees. Then 1 hour pace run. Happy New Years everyone!

I started the year with a nice 10K this morning. It was a mix of road and trail.

Happy New Years BT Peeps! The goal was to complete the entire 10,000 yards of the annual 100x100 New Years Day swim but I stopped at 7,500. Still a great start to 2014. May everyone's goals be met or exceeded this year, happy training!

I started off my day with a run (slow 5 miles) and went to the gym for boot camp class.  Few folks getting the tour from the front office types but not very busy--only 2 of us in the class.

Happy 2014 BT peeps!

Wishing everyone a healthy and happy 2014 with lots of PR's :-)

I participated in my end of the year 10,000 masters swim challenge and I did it! Wooot woooot

This morning I biked 33 miles in a muggy and windy south florida.

Safe training for all!

I avoided the gym today. It has already been insanelly packed the last 2 days when I had the pleasure of the pool lane walkers as well, although Monday the usual walking lanes were packed with kids so it was understandable. The activities lady I chat with regularly commented that they had a lot of people "getting a jump start on their resolutions". While Resolutioners are unintentionally annoying at times to the 'regulars' I wish them the best of luck in not becoming part of the 6-8 week statistic and sticking to getting/being healthy. (now I just have to remember that feeling when I go to the gym tomorrow)

I'm not really allowed to swim yet. Can probably start next week.

I'm allowed to do light workouts on the bike only because I talked doc into it or I'd go nuts.

My running days are done if I want to keep my knees.

My longest bike ride has been 37 minutes for the past 6 weeks. It screwed with my incisions so I've only done 15 and 20 minute rides.

Headed to the gym today to do some strength training--haven't been able to during Christmas break. Flew back from the US yesterday (kind off--I lost a day in there due to the time difference!) so still feeling pretty hung over from jet lag. Going to spend today planning training and working on my bike; bike focus starts tomorrow. I signed up for a race with a 62 km bike leg at the end of March so really, really need to get on the bike!!

Would start today but from experience, I need to rest up a day or I'm much more likely to get sick/injured--20+ hours on a plane breathing everyone's germs is not kind to the system.

Resolution for this year: Stay healthy (i.e. don't get hit by motorbikes or pushed down by fellow competitors) and run more, but do more balanced training. I have an unfortunate tendency to just do what I like (swim and run) But there just aren't that many swim-run races around!

People are trying to get healthy and fit what is wrong with that? They have the same entitlement to that lane as you do.

Not trying to be a I just never understand the people that complain about so many people trying to explore fitness and healthy lifestyles, that is one thing our country here in the USA needs more then anything.

Happy first day of 2014!  Despite my best effort to get going early, I slept in!  I was up until 12:05am last night!  Waaaay late for me!

12:00pm:  1:20 run--lots and lots of climbing!

1:45pm:  1:15/22 miles on the KK--lovely spin watching Judge Judy, ha!

It was a lovely first day of 2014!

I avoid the gym this time of year as much as I can and only like it because that means my spin classes will hopefully be full - I love the energy of a full class!

I'm all for people trying to get healthy and giving fitness a try, but wish they would have some consideration - learn the rules for the treadmills, the pool etc!

Had a very late night last night but still got out for a 6 mile run around 10am. Weather here in AZ is gorgeous (70's) so I had to get out!

Happy New Year Everyone!!! Make 2014 your best yet!!

Looking forward to a wonderful year!

Started off the new year with what was supposed to be an easy 1:30 trail run on a new trail. Ended up being a bit more difficult that expected. 8 miles with 3000+ ft elevation of climbing total. Was a great start to the year.

Went for a ride today with hubby. Decided to go to our local lake knowing that the gate would be locked and assuming it would keep out all the kiddos with their new scooters and bikes...which are dangerous to ride thru! We were wrong. Lake was packed.

It is nice to see families out getting some sunshine, fresh air and exercise, but it is frustrating when people do not follow the basic rules, stay right, pass left and let their kids ride with wild (unpredictable) abandon all across the lanes.

and don't get me started on the dogs on 12' leads....that you can't see as they are stretched across your lane.

Drove for 5 hours and then hit the dreadmill for 2 miles. Will have to hit it again today for 4 miles since the snow is just starting and we are forecast to get 12-15 inches.. sigh...

For most people, there is a story in how they came to the sport as beginners. Some of the most inspiring of those beginner tales begin with health scares.

With the coming of the New Year, athletes commonly think about making nutrition resolutions. Good thing, given only 3 to 4% of Americans follow all of the established Dietary Guidelines.

To help implement your resolutions (or those of your friends and family members), I recommend the following books, most of which are written by nutrition experts: registered dietitians (RD).
