I have no desire for a flame war, especially with Bear who, I will admit, has useful and helpful (albeit not always tactful) advice 99.99% of the time. Therefore I will respectfully decline any further feuding. I really didn't mean to offend anyone, but apparently managed to anyway. Sorry if I got carried away.

I'm not sure how you say, "Well, you can always count on Bear to be a bit of an @$$. What an utterly useless comment," in a way not meant to offend anyone, but, hey, I'll play along. Didn't mean to indirectly call you a wussie, though I see now the little bit of training you do is done inside. Wink

I didn't want to start anything I was just trying to make light of the situation.  You know what would fix this problem.  For all of us to get off the computer and go train!

Today was an off day for me bear. [/sarcasm on] I didn't run 10 miles and swim 2 miles and then bike 20 in 90 degree heat like you do everyday [/sarcasm off]

I find the mental thinking  prior to the ride when it is hot out is much worse than the actual ride.  I did 3 or 4 50+ mile rides in the last 2-3 weeks when it was between 95-100 often ending the ride mid-day and doing a run afterwards. I pushed hard to meet my 400 mile bike challenge which left me no options but to ride when scheduled.

Really I surprised myself that it was easier than I thought it would be. The better shape you are in the less heat/humidity effects you or so says my coach.

It also made me feel mentally tougher so if it is race day and hot, I will not be as intimidated by the hot weather.

Be sure to drink enough, take in electrolytes and if you feel very hot, go inside someplace with a/c for a break or jump in a lake to cool off.

One would never know that by looking at your race times.
