Does anyone know what the total ascent is for Kona's bike course? I seem to be having trouble finding that information on their website. Thanks!

It's actually closer to 4400 feet.  Basically none of that course is flat.  Always rolling up or down a little, and then you have a modest climb to Hawi and up Kawaihae.

TV does not do that course justice. It looks about as flat as IMFL.

I got 4600ft using www.bike-and-hike-route.com
Indeed it's never flat but there is no big climb. Also the long straight roads make it look flat.

When I did the climb to Hawi the wind was blasting in my face at 20+ MPH. 6% grade for approximately 12 miles. Wind. It was all I could do to keep myself upright and moving forward. But, oh the fun after the turnaround, descending with the wind at your back at 40-45 MPH .

Definitely more climbing than the NBC broadcast would have you think.

I can't say it enough, the feeling of treading water for that final minute, helicopters over head, Mike Riley's Iron-voice over the P.A. - just awesome. I cannot believe I'm here!

Well the day is finally here. I don't believe a single workout has gone by in these past 9 years where the idea of being at the start line of the Ironman Hawaii didn't creep into my head.

So far the taper is feeling good and I'm getting that itchy feeling to race. I know this will grow even stronger when I get to the island and see my friends and PBN Team members.

Definitely glad this weekend is out of the way as 145 miles of cycling and 27 miles of running in two days is a fair amount.
