How many of you out there are planning on doing this race this year?

This will be my third race in PG, great place to be; most gorgeous course in CA.

Not this year, but DH and I are planning on it for 2007.... we were married in PG and thought it'd be cool to do it... sort of like coming full circle...

I got married in Carmel, but my in-laws are from PG.  Love it up there just too expensive for someone in there 20's to survive.

I did it last year, first tri ever, and am going to do it again this year.

Getting excited, loved the kelp bed

My wife did the sprint at PG (she is local PG girl) a couple years ago.  She had a lot of fun.  Great race for the whole family to attend and watch.

I am doing my first sprint tri in two weeks, then will start training for an olympic tri. I was concerned that the PG olympic tri would be too soon. Would appreciate any advice on the transition from sprint to olympic distance. Looking at the training plans here, I am already overtraining for a sprint distance, except in swimming.

Also, what is swimming in the kelp like?

Thanks,

Jeff

You still have a little time before your sprint, what is your long distance runs/rides like?

It is the the base that will have the biggest impact on completing both with good times.

Jeff:
I was down at Pac Grove this weekend and did the course. I can't imaging a flater course. If you're going to do an Olympic Distance it seems like an excellent place to go!

My base:

Bike: 70 minutes (was 180 minutes when I was training for a Century this June)
Run: 30 minutes
Swim: working on it

Doesn't look very Olympic to me. Yet.

Pac Grove is perfect for a first time Olympic.  It was my first tri ever and I was able to complete it with no major issues (had some knee trouble and was slow on run, but I made it.  Can only get faster from this point forward, right?).

If you can do a century ride and are working on run and swim, you should be fine.  Don't worry about the run too much because by the end you can always walk, and there are plenty of walkers at Pac Grove (TNT event).

You can swim or pull yourself through the kelp which ever you prefer, or even take a break/sit on top of it if you need to!  There's a lot of support boats too.  Most people uneccessarily worry about the swim the most,  the wets suits are almost unsinkable and improve your swim and the event people keep a close eye on you.  Just be sure to practice sighting in your wet suit.

It is a great swim because the water is clear and you can look down and see all the fish and wildlife in the kelp.  Beautiful!

I am leaning towards doing PG, but am definitely enrolling in a Masters swim program. In South San Jose there are a number of choices. I think the Silicon Valley Aquatic Association Master Program looks good (http://www.siliconvalleyaquaticassociation.org/masters.htm).

Thanks,

Jeff

When is this Tri?  I love PG.  My wife and I go every now and then and stay at a bed & breakfast.  I could probably talk her into going.

I'm heading out! I'll see you all there. I'll be the one wearing the black wet suit.

How strange I have a black wet suit too! The lady at the hotel wished me luck to win the race, the black must have been the jinx why I did not win.  Drat.
