Hi-I'll be driving to Eagleman from the Boston area, leaving Friday morning and returning Monday. I'm looking for someone to share the drive & ride with. Anyone?

I'm from the Boston area too (Belmont), but I'm not planning on driving down until Saturday. It probably wouldn't work logistically to pair up anyway, since I'm going down with my boyfriend and between the two of us and my bike, there probably won't be spare room. Nice to hear there will be other locals at the race though!

Salisbury is about 40 minutes away and should have rooms.

This falls under the "small world" heading-I'm also from Belmont!!

Have you done this one before? I did it last year & the drive down was torture. There was a tropical storm blowing up the coast. What should have been a 7 hour drive turned into a 13 hour drive!!

Haha, that is definitely a small world situation! I just moved to Belmont this past winter. I've lived in the Boston area for over a decade though. I like it so far, although I was just saying last night that it could use more restaurants/bars. I'm in the Waverly area so it's pretty slim pickings there...

This isn't my first HIM, but it will be my first time doing this one. I hope there's not another storm like last year; I partially chose it since I thought the drive would be somewhat reasonable. That, and it would be nice to not have a tropical storm around for race day too! Other than the weather issues, did you like it? I'm assuming you must have to at least some degree since you signed up again. I'm worried about the swim (I've been slacking on training and I'm pretty slow even on a good day, also I'm worried about jellyfish!), but otherwise, just hoping that it won't be too hot and hopefully it should be okay.

I live in the Winn-Brook area and there's a pretty good selection of restaurants there (the town center).

I have a love/hate relationship with Eagleman! Last year was my first try at it and pretty much what could go wrong did go wrong. Being exhausted from the drive down didn't help, the hotel where we (a friend and I) reserved a room with 2 double beds only had a room with 1 double bed. There was nothing we could do about it at 2 in the morning-good thing were good friends. Because of all the rain, the transition area was a large mud pit, a buoy broke loose durting the swim, adding an extra 200+ yards (my swim time came darn close to my IRONMAN swim time!), the battery on my Di2 shifters died so I had a single speed TT bike for 56 miles, my aerobottle straw broke so I went for long stretches without water....

So, why am I going back? I need to atone for last year! Besides, I want to see what I can do when things, hopefully, go right. As to the jelly fish, not a problem. I actually never even saw any. The bike is flat, flat, flat. And windy. And hot. Lots of people went way too hard on the bike and then walked the run. I'm a really slow runner and I passed 30+ people on the run. That never ever happens.

It's a well run race and a beautiful area. I think you'll like it.

Well I'm being a bit quiet because I'm freaking out about the wave start. I got the dead last wave...so looks like a nice noon-ish run for me. And being from upstate I haven't really had a ton of time to acclimate to the heat so it should be a fun race. Looks like I'll be able to watch all you guys start before me!

Training has certainly dropped off quite a bit for me for the past couple of weeks, but I suppose it's taper time regardless, so I shouldn't feel guilty. I'm definitely worried about the heat on the run. I'm in a middle wave, which is certainly better than some, but I'm used to running in the 60s and below at this point, so anything from the 70s on is going to be HOT!

Safe travels for all of you already on your way. I head out bright and early tomorrow!

Yeah, I'm pretty bummed to be in the 3rd to last wave. The run will be hot, but with a daytime high of 82 and overcast, it may not be "surface of the sun" hot.

Good Luck to everyone racing this weekend!! So far, we have not had too many problems with humidity this year so sending prayers for an overcast weekend your way.

Weather forecast actually doesn't look so bad on Wunderground. High of between 82 and 84, overcast, reasonably low humidity. Let's hope it holds.
