Pre-race routine:

Light breakfast of a banana and kind bar and about 6oz of coffee.
Event warmup:

Almost zero stretching. Wanted to see how that worked out. Just tried to stay warm inside the high school gym. Foggy and damp out! about 34 degrees at the start. Sort of perfect temp throughout the race.

Very happy with the run. My fastest half marathon. My wife also set a PR for a half-1:56! Very excited for her!
What would you do differently?:

More training run at a quicker clip. I think getting a sub-2 hour half is within my grasp.
Post race
Warm down:

Very little stretching. Legs are tired but feel great. Tacos and beer to celebrate.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of intense training. I'm now following a good workout guideline. The beginning phase of triathlon training started a week ago.

Event comments:

Really enjoyed the mom and pop feel of this event. Looking forward to returning.

I just ran the Boston Marathon under nine minute miles, can I run eight minute miles for my half Ironman training runs? Or should I go slower?

I just started doing tris this summer and I have two under my belt, both sprints. Is it reasonable to build up for a Oly in early ‘09, with a HIM in Oct of ‘09

This program should be used for an athlete whose goal is to run a marathon in the 1:30-2:30 range and has a good running base in the past 8-12 weeks.

I will assume you have not run consistently more than 6 miles and have never completed a half-marathon. I believe running your first half-marathon is a big task which requires dedication and work.
