Pre-race routine:

Got there way early as Dexter was a volunteer. Registration was easy - no line. Ate my usual breakfast around 6:45 - race was at 0900.
Event warmup:

Walked for 15-20 minutes and then did a good stretch.

Comments:

Will volunteered with Ally who was riding her bike around the course in case anybody needed help. I asked him to stay with me as I finished up the first uphill mile since I was by myself. He found me again around the 22 min mark and then went off with Ally. Getting hot by the end. Dexter's station was around the 3 mile mark, so it was good to see him and be able to see the final turn into the parking lot to the finish line. I saw Marmadaddy walking back over the course - turns out he was looking for me! He kindly offered to run in with me and that was awesome! Once we turned that final corner, he told me to swing my arms and pick it up - which I did. Then he told me the sooner I get there, the sooner it's over - so I took it up another notch. He veered off to the side and I crossed the line going like one-eyed swervin' Irvine. I'm fairly certain that was my fastest pace - the timing guy had to come after me to get my tag!
What would you do differently?:

Nothin'!
Post race
Warm down:

Kept walking and walking, followed by a full stretch.
Went inside for a very nice award ceremony and some refreshments.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I was pretty much pain free, so I didn't dwell on it at all.

Event comments:

I was very happy to have Dexter and Will with me. Also, I talked our friend Chad into coming with us, as well as my brother-in-law Barry. They both happened to be in town for the weekend. I told Chad to turn around at the finish and wait for me - 'no problem, he said'. So, after I came across, he was asking Dexter and Will where I was - needless to say, he didn't see me because he was chatting and didn't think I'd be coming through at my record pace. He'll never live that down.
Woohoo! My personal best time!
Thanks Marmadaddy!
Thanks Will!
Thanks Dud!

Performance: Good
Since I had done at least a 1/2 mile walking prior to race, I was able to start out running. I actually ran the whole thing except for walking by the 2 water stations - the 1st one I didn't get any because there weren't any full cups. I just went back to running - the 2nd one I got a drink and took about 200 paces to get it down without choking. I almost lost it (as I usually do) between 0.5 and 1 mile, then my breathing calms down and I am more relaxed.
Course: To me, very hilly. I'll be interested to hear what Marmadaddy says. It was a long, steady rise for the first mile.

Supreme effort at the end, particularly after that uphill. I predict your next 5k is under 30 minutes.
