Phatknot was racing today...

Apparently he's in mid-season form as he went 4:38 and finished 7th in AG and 83rd OA. 2:21 bike split..that kind of speed is no joke.

Nice job, mate.

Anyone else from these parts there, too?

Wow that is covering some distance in a hurry.

Slayer - so how was the 4 lap bike course? That seems like it would be a nutso congested 14 mile per lap ride with a sold out field, I can't even imagine what the closing speed would be like for the FOP to BOP. Race Report????

So top pro - Javier Gomez at 3:38, guess he is taking his ITU speed to the Half distance now.

so thanks alot guys. it was a fast current swim. even better than augusta! transitions were long but that was ok.

the bike i was expecting to be easier but the many u-turns and on-ramps along with the wind and increasing heat and humidity were tough. at 265 w on avg, i was well below what i normally (aka 290ish w) shoot for to help myself on the run.

the run was just plain unfair. 90+ degrees, excessive humidity and no shade. think sauna outta t2. all this plus training in sub 30 degrees most of the build.

wind was high but that to me was a problem i some ways but helped when it was behind you.

i basically had a find your legs for 1-2 miles then drop to race pace for 10 and kill the final mile. however, all i could do was stay easy to get it done with a slight pickup at the end.

all in all, id say it was unique, fun, challenging, but hot as hell. the swim alone makes me want to go back though!

Awesome Job as always, Phat - way to kick off the tri-season for the rest of us!
Spring is definitely in the air - thanks for bringing the warmer weather home with you.

Thanks again guys. Surprised that it was received well. Kind of felt it was a mediocre output from my watts (10% down) and pace (close to a minute off desired race pace) on the bike and run.

Definitely would go back for the swim alone. The country was really different so that was a great aspect too. Not sure how to contend with that heat though other than going 2 weeks in advance.

watt output decrease from heat and possibly from road conditions...not the best combo, man. regardless, you had an awesome race!

panama is a GREAT country to go visit. go visit, but don't stay in the city too long. it's crowded and getting very expensive. the rest of the country is beautiful, the ppl are wonderful, and the food....oh, the food.
