I wanted to let you all know of a new race coming to the Baltimore area this October. This event will have both a sprint and olympic distance race as well as the option for 2 person or 3 person relay teams. This race will be held at Gunpowder State Park and will be a nice flat bike/run. With UCF cancelling the Half Full Triathlon this year, I really think this race could be a great alternative and also pretty local for most of us in MD. You can find out more info by checking out www.baltimoretri.com I will be there and can't wait to get my finishers medal (My friend designed them). Hope to see some of you out there. Oh and the pricing is pretty darn good too.

Agreed! I am very excited to see how the event turns out as I think it could bring a new staple to the Baltimore area for racing each year.
Much of the course looks like it will model the now defunct Hammer Man Sprint that they used to run at that location. It is a great venue for a race and I think it will be a success. As you said, the early bird pricing is dirt cheap as well!

Since it's a Saturday, you may have my interest. But it is one week before my first 50k run, which means I should really not be racing. But I may decide to do the sprint.

Now that would add a new sense of challenge to the race!

Baltimore Area Triathlon Club... I am looking to join this year. Doesn't look like they're quite out of winter hibernation yet but as soon as they start posting some workouts/events I plan on joining!

I just looked at their Meetup page and they have had rides going on all month...they might be out of hibernation :-) Their club meeting and new tri info session was on 4/15/14.

Depending on where in Baltimore County you are, you might also want to check out Harford Multisport in Harford County. We have group track runs every tuesday, group rides on thursdays, group OWS on saturdays, Group Long Runs on Sundays and members often email each other to set up longer rides on the weekends. We also have monthly social events and most of our activities are centered around Bel Air. PM me if you want more info.

i'm strongly considering the Oly for this. I need to do an oly with a swim since the swim was nixxed at Columbia, and that's my best part!

Has anyone seen cue sheets for the bike? The map on the site looks kind of confusing. I guess it's a 2 lap affair, but I can't tell which direction it's going.

I live within riding distance of Hammerman, so I want to check it out ahead of time.

I would definitely be interested in seeing the ride details as I was confused by the map as well. I live really close as well and have never biked that area before.

I just signed up for the Olympic distance. It'll be my first triathlon ever. I'm also nervous about the cutoffs, especially the 12-mile, 9:20am cutoff. To those of you that live out there, is the bike pretty flat?

Care to elaborate? I'm sure the organizers would love to hear your critiques.

Personally, overall, I thought it was pretty good. There could have been a few things that could stand improvement, but still, a good time.

The swim was long due to an overnight storm moving the buoys, but that suited me fine. The bike could have been better marked, but, as they say, it's the racers' responsibility to know where you're supposed to go. I had pre-run it and looked at the map, so I was OK. The run was nice that it was all inside the park, so that made it easy for aid stations, etc.

A couple of bugs to work out, but not bad.

I thought that they actually put together a solid event. They got a great turn out, selling out the race pretty early for their first year, and I thought the course was marked well and was very spectator friendly.
The swim course was really long, but with the storms we got overnight I wouldn't blame them much.
I'm excited to have another race option local to Baltimore and hope that the race sticks around for years to come.

Please Explain? I am close friends with the Race Organizer and they want to put on a quality event and I know they would love to hear any feedback whatsoever that could help them improve the event. Overall, they have received nothing but positive feedback from racers. What about the race sucked?
