Pre-race routine:

Ate one pop tart, one cup of coffee with almond milk and water. Drove the ten minutes to the race. Met up with peeps, that was it.
Event warmup:

Nothing. Stood around because race was late to start.

  • 13.1 miles

Comments:

Just wanted to average 10 min miles. Went under that, so I am happy.
What would you do differently?:

Train more! Although I honestly didn't have time to get the training in for this one....so it's not bad, I feel good about it.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank some coconut water, socialized, rode bus back to car. Afterward went to food and drinks with some BTers which was awesome.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of long runs.

Event comments:

I just love this event--so close to home, where I run all the time....easy peasy and I love the race directors and others that work with them. Plus I always see so many friends out there. It's a good day.

This was the first half marathon since my breast reduction and I have to say it was incredible to finish up and not be chafed, bleeding, have neck, back, shoulder, back pain. ECSTATIC!

Nice work Leslie! I am so glad you were able to run!

You did fantastic. And honestly, finishing not bleeding/chaffed/injured is GOLD.

I just started doing tris this summer and I have two under my belt, both sprints. Is it reasonable to build up for a Oly in early ‘09, with a HIM in Oct of ‘09

I am running Boston in April and Ironman Lake Placid is in July. I have been told that it is ambitious to think about doing an IM so close to a marathon due to the recovery time. Any suggestions?

The first time I ventured into the deep murky green lake and could not see the bottom my muscles tensed and my imagined fears surfaced. What exactly lies beneath?

Having three seasons under my belt I thought I knew what I was doing. That all changed with a few new challenges and a bunch of new friends.

This program should be used for an athlete whose goal is to run a marathon in the 1:30-2:30 range and has a good running base in the past 8-12 weeks.

I will assume you have not run consistently more than 6 miles and have never completed a half-marathon. I believe running your first half-marathon is a big task which requires dedication and work.

My training was taking off. I had never felt stronger. I was making bigger strides than I ever had. I was stronger and faster than I had imagined myself ever being.
