Subject: So what is your personality type?

So I recently did some assessments and forgot about some of this stuff. I took MBTI before but it was a long time ago.I took DiSC and Strength Finders.

I'm a ENTP. Somehow it has me pegged as someone that does not like to follow rules. DiSC has me at moderate DC... I like to argue and will take the weak side of the argument if nobody else does. I go both ways.

I don't see that at all. I think those tests are stupid.

DISC I am a

DIC and no I don't want to hear any puns around that.

I have taken a Meyers briggs and a few others. I always fall in a weird category or covered multiple categories. A few times I have tested out with DISC and had a full DICS profile. And that was on a 200 question review.

In another test where it looks for a dominate trait and a team dimension profile. I end up in the rare 11% position called a Flexor. A company I used to work for made us take the test every year for 10 years. It was kind of interesting. I was a flexor and I would always lean towards and area the rest of the facility had a weakness in.

For a few years we were weak on refiners so I flexed more that way. Then for a few years we were weak on advancers so I ended up more in that profile. And the last few years I was an Advancer. Probably why I left the company as no one else was working to advance anything. The only one I would never lean towards is an executor. And you will find most companies have a lot of these people. Executors.

Unless you work in a design facility.

INTJ as well. Likely you'll see a larger representation of this rare personality type in individual endurance sports.

I've taken it three times, and every time I'm an INFP.

The first time I took it I was 18; it was one of many tests taken within the first few weeks of entering the Naval Academy.  They then had us all retest early in our sophomore year. (I think they were testing to see if plebe year had changed us at all.)  They presented all of the results in a required leadership class later sophomore year.  Interestingly, 87% of Midshipmen tested ESTJ.  Less than .03% (at least at the time I was there, and I don't know how long they had been collecting data) tested INFP--the exact opposite of ESTJ.  Of the midshipmen who tested INFP, over 97% left the Academy.  I hadn't yet decided to leave when I got that information, but I remember feeling some relief in knowing that maybe it was just a really bad fit for my personality.

I also have a strong dislike for the test every time I take it.  I probably say some version of "that's a stupid question" or "none of these apply" on a majority of the questions.  Yet every time, INFP.

I also an ENFJ

Not your normal Triathlete who I would suspect to be more introverted. Mind you I love being on my bike alone some times. But I find it hard to work out on my own all the time.. probably explains it.

I think this type of test is paramount for the workplace. Recognizing your type and the types of your superiors and people you work with is eye opening and can help avoid conflict, if the information is used correctly (it can also be used to create drama, but that's another thread). I recently took the assessment as part of a leadership class and am already recognizing different traits in others and shifting how I deal with them to get where we want to be more quickly.

Me:

INFP = Introversion, Intuition, Feeling, Perceiving.
I focus on my inner world of ideas.
I prefer to take information from patterns and big pictures, focus on future possibilities.
I make decisions primarily on values and subjective evaluation.
I like a flexible and spontaneous approach to life, prefer to keep options open.

"They are generally faithful in fulfilling obligations related to people, work, or ideas to which they are committed, but they can have difficulty performing routine work that has little meaning for them."
"They find structures and rules confining and prefer to work autonomously. They are adaptable and flexible until something violates their inner values."

I took this test twice with two different companies. The first time I was an INFP and the second time about four years later I was an ENFP. I am borderline on the E/I but solid on the NF & P.

I've never responded honestly to the Meyers Briggs survey.  I must fall into some odd category.

The first time I was asked to participate in a survey it was part one of these team building exercises with an all day retreat.  I hate these things.  We received the survey ahead of time.  I started to fill it out and noticed they kept asking the same question different ways.  I decided I would keep track of each type of question and answer each one in alternate extremes of the responses.  So, I turned it in the day before the session as required.  I did not know the mythology of these things at the time and how seriously people take it.  Anyway, the instructor sought me out at the first break and asked in all seriousness if I was ok.  I told him I was not into revealing much about myself.   I didn't want to do the survey and he should just ignore it.  He was crushed.  Really I had no idea that I could rain on somebody's parade like that.

The upside was I never was invited to one of the touchy-feely leadership things again.

I would argue that it's not a "myth" but how we are naturally wired. There is no right or wrong answer, even in a touchy-feely leadership retreat. It's meant to be used as a tool to help groups work better together, but if people intentionally skew the results it won't work.

I'm an ESTP.

At officer candidate school, we all took the test, then split into our respective groups. It was pretty interesting to see who my personality lined up with, and eve more interesting in my opinion, where my good friends fell.

I don't know what to call it, but it's the type that would point out your use of  "So".

That's funny. I'm also an INFP. I had to take the test as part of a leadership retreat when I was working as an engineer at a big oil company, and everybody in the room was an ESTJ except me. They actually made us go to different corners of the room based on our test results and it was me in one corner, and everyone else in the opposite! Like you, I hadn't yet decided to leave the company at the time, but I eventually realized that maybe that particular company's corporate environment was not well-suited to my personality! I'm honestly not sure how I got hired in the first place
