Subject: Best training log for free users?
I am trying to decide on which site/app/program to use to record and track my workouts but I'm having a hard time finding one I really like. Part of the problem is most of the sites only put any effort into their product when your paying a recurring fee for the service (I don't mind paying for a product upfront but I hate subscription fees). Most of the people that I talk to that recommend training peaks for example are all premium users, I got the same impression at BT's log but to a lesser extent. I have heard that garmin connect has made some headway recently and that strava is allowing multisport logging. I have heard talk of other sites and apps but am not really familiar with them so I could use a little schooling. So, which training log is better at the free level (or one time fee). Thoughts? Anybody?

Generally, I believe you get what you pay for.  If you're only considering free options, you won't find better than here on BT, IMO.

I think the BT logs are great.  I've used them for close to ten years along with an Excel spreadsheet that I developed.

I pretty much only run anymore, so leaving it all in Runkeeper works for me. When I was doing multi-sport training, the logging here (as a free user) was the best I found anywhere.

The log here is the best.  You get the same access to logging that a paid user has.  The difference in a (very cheap and fairly priced) paid account is the ability to upload from Garmin, upload training plans, etc.  But just for logging, BT is the bomb.

I like the log here on BT. I had a Bronze membership for a while which gave me better discounts at TriSports for example. There were also more training plans to pick from and some other features that I didn't use. I'm totally happy with the free training log here. I mean, after all, IT'S FREE! You can log s/b/r here as well as strength and other stuff. I've used mapmyrun, garmin etc. but this one's the best in my opinion. I haven't looked at Training Peaks in great detail.

Alright people calm down, I'm hearing ya. I'll give BT's log a shot for a while and see how I like it. Though I do wish BT had a training log iPad app. Any chance of that happening?

There is an app, Search Beginner Triathlete in the App Store.

Currently, I am using Training Peaks, Strava and BT. They all have components of them that I like and dislike. Overall, BT has some features that I enjoy the most, so if I go to one only, it will be BT. If I ever use a coach, I'll probably stick to TP, since that seems to be fairly standard in coaching circles.

I found I liked logging through the mobile version of the website more than I liked using the app.

There is a phone app that can be blown up on an iPad but there is no true iPad optimized app. And I agree with both of you that I prefer the mobile site to the current phone app. That is one of the few things I actually liked about training peaks was they have a dedicated iPad app.

I log generally here for notes and stuff even though I ebb and flow and am basically just biking right now. I liked this site the best for triathlon and the notes feature.

I like Strava a lot as well and using certain aspects of it to keep motivated on the bike and hit group rides and races. For running it isn't quite as cool but it is still pretty good.

I use Golden Cheetah for the bike as well. If you train with power, it is the best free resource.

This half Ironman plan covers many weeks of challenging, but attainable training for someone who has some endurance experience, and ideally some Olympic distance races within the past season.
