Comments:

My first race this year on the long distance, so I took it easy.
What would you do differently?:

Do not drink too much coffee the day before a race. Use portable toilet early, so I would not wait in line and have more time for warm-up.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk, some stretching and jogging to the parking lot.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not enough mileage put into my workouts. I felt some muscle stiffness in the last 2 miles, but fortunately no cramps.

Event comments:

I like "Get Lucky" race for its colorful and funny atmosphere to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. Many contestants were dressed up in green costumes, some of the men with green beards, women had green hair. Good race for first half marathon this season.

Performance: Average
The goal was to keep average HR at no more than 85 -90% of max. I was running at 143 which gives 88%.
Course: Mostly on the asphalt trail along Lake Michigan. The remains of snow and melting ice made the course more difficult and slower. Mile marks were misplaced. Enough water stations and nice cheering up on the way.

Should I be working on getting faster at running by doing the longer distances and working up slowly over time or run faster for shorter distances now?

We triathletes are a lucky lot. We have the time and the resources to enjoy a sport that is time consuming and can be very expensive. I take this opportunity to reflect on my good fortune.
