On race day, you make sure you're #3 in line to check in so you can get a good transition spot, even if that means leaving the house an extra 1/2 hour early, getting there before dawn, and having to wait for the venue to open.

This is my DH's MO.  This year, I get my sweet revenge.  He'll finally be jock-strapping for me instead of vice versa.

**when you feel more at home at a race event with sweaty, smelly people dressed in spandex, wearing hats, visors and running shoes...

compared to a dressy function where you are forced to wear (for the girls - makeup) and uncomfortable shoes!

**When your kids think that just because you showered and wearing non-workout clothes that you are going out somewhere special.

When you go to your child's soccer practice and put in 8-10 miles running around one soccer field while "watching" the practice.

When you get back from a 10 mile run or a 50 mile bike ride and your kids say, "That's it?"

When you run or ride an extra few miles past your planned "time" just to get to an even 10, 20, 50 or 100. I couldn't possibly stop a bike ride at 98 miles.

I totally do this with swimming.  Absolutely cannot do an odd number of laps.

You have to constantly defend your weight as "I'm not too skinny, I'm an athlete" :\

When the nurse checking you in at the doctors gives you a very confused look when she asks how many hours a week you exercise and you reply: "19"

In line at Starbucks you become instant life friends with another when she asks about a finisher shirt... exchanging stories about pregnancy and foot surgeries and clavicle fractures to the consternation of everyone just wanting coffee

When you have a transition zone next to your door. Mine (it's in a wooden mini-boat that I got at a boat workshop here) normally has six pairs of shoes in it (there's a purpose for each), as well as hydration belts (one and two bottle variety), hats, heart rate monitor straps, and the armband that holds my MP3, in various stages of sweatiness and drying. Plus usually a cat or two in need of attention between the bike and run.

Yes! I'm not the only one who does that!

Just the other day I had to ask my husband how old I was because I kept confusing my race age with my actual age.

I called my mom, I really thought I was 36 but I just don't pay much attention to bdays so I thought I very well could of just turned 37 and just didn't realize it

..you time yourself in the locker room at the pool how quickly you can change from street clothes to jammers and you have every movement choreographed perfectly.

When you go to Las Vegas, you skip the casino and strippers, opting for a guided bike tour up Mt Charleston, then kill urself climbing 5400 ft over 17miles.

I did this recently with Bike Blast Las Vegas www.bikeblastlasvegas.com

I highly recommend it! Although use shammy cream so you don't come home with unexplainable saddle sores :-)

...when you are the easiest person to buy presents for. My husband/family just has to get me a gift card or go shopping at the local tri store/running store.

The first thing that comes to your mind is to find a tri race or camp in your upcoming overseas trip ( business or family vacation).

Definitely. Then before you hit the sack you make the coffee (or set the coffee pot timer--I drink it hot so I make it the night before and put it in the fridge) and electrolyte drink to save time for your morning workout, or pack your workout bag for an afternoon one.

Went to a play and art show last night with my wife and her friend who is a marathoner. I see a somewhat abstract painting of a bunch of people standing in water and say "oh look, they have triathlon paintings for sale". Wife rolls eyes, mutters "single minded", friend laughs.

I went into the pool area (as this was a pool swim) and got body marked. That's when it hit me that I was there to race - this was not a clinic.
