Comments:

I came into the race, hoping for a sub-25 time. At a recent 2-15-2 duathlon, I ran the first two miles at 7:54/mile, so I was thinking I could hold that for another mile.

My LT threshold was supposed to be 185, and my coaches instruction was to hold at the LT threshold for the first mile. After the excitement of the start, my HR rose to 193, although I felt reasonably okay. I decided to back off a bit (which made HR drop to about 188-189) until the last mile.

I'm wondering if my LT is outdated and I actually ran too slow? Or is there something wrong with my HR monitor? My previous highest HR ever was 195, but during the sprint to the finish, the data showed 202.

Also I developed a huge blister on the ball of my left foot about halfway through. Each step was very painful.
What would you do differently?:

For such a short distance, don't pace myself via HR, and just run by feel.

Add talcum powder to my socks.
Post race
Warm down:

Hobbled arround for about 20 minutes. (The blister made me limp)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The HR monitor issues, huge blister, and the weather was a factor. It was very humid and we were all sweating after a mile.

Event comments:

Good race to attempt a PR. It is flat course and has a moderate amount of participants (about 600) so you won't be trying to dodge lots of slower people.

Symptoms will vary depending on severity of the injury. Injuries generally occur suddenly and often produce immediate pain at the muscle insertion points behind the knee or in the buttocks.

This aggressive couch to 5k program will get you running from nothing and will be the lead-up to any of the sprint programs.
