I just read about a 12 hour race that is run on a 5 mile loop in the Redmond Watershed on May 17th.  Sounds like a lot of fun.

Is anyone familiar with those trails?  Curious as to what the surface is like and the elevation changes.

From the description here it sounds sort of typical PNW. Rolling hills, the trails look good in the pictures, I'm sure it depends on the last time it rained though. There can be some fairly steep hills in that part of Redmond, but from what I read this course avoids the bigger ones that take you down towards the Sammamish River or to the Snoqualmie River.

Semi-related, you might check this out for next year. I ran it this year (although didn't do all 12hrs, I used it as a training run for the Mt Si ultra). It was a fun race and well organized. I would do it next year, even if just as a half marathon.

I know a ton of people that go out there to run but I have not been personally.

Looking forward to the day I start doing Ultras! There is so much offered around here!

I'll have to look at that for next year.  Dizzy Daze is very similar to the 12 hour I did around Lake Padden in Bellingham last year which is a 2.6 mile loop around the lake.  You do almost get dizzy going around the same loop time after time but a very "safe" environment for someone wanting to get their feet wet with an ultra.

I love running at the Watershed and try to do it often. The trails are well-maintained, not too muddy or root, well-marked and wide.  It's gorgeous!

The longer loop is all about side walk width with a mix of gravel and packed dirt w/ implanted rocks. The switch backs are going to be a little steep but short and the backside just after/before the switchbacks has a couple very short (20-40m) steep sections. Otherwise it will just be rolling or flat.

The shorter loop is very narrow and not very great footing. It's a really tough one to hold any sort of rhythm on. A couple laps, much less 2 hours at the end of an Ultra, is enough to have me wanting to run elsewhere.

I would be driven nuts by the end, but I guess that is going to happen on any 12 hour looped course!

The schedule consists of 3 workouts per week in each sport, 2 days of strength training and core work too. The maximum volume is around 7 hours toward the end of the 12 weeks.
