Run
Comments: First race of the year. 400 runners in the 5 K. Some are there for racing. Most are there for accomplishment and fun. The races all made their way towards the front of the pack. I was one of them. Gun went off and it was a quick dash for the first 200 meters or so. I did a quick pace check and I was at 5:45 mile time. Way too fast. I pulled back and let the 15 or so leave. Settled in at about 6:20-6:25 into a decent head wind. Mile 1: 6:21 Mile 2: 6:35 Mile 3: 6:25 I was ahead of my running partner thruogh 2.75 miles when he passed me which is fine with me. He has concentrated on running while I'm still tri training, but I was happy for his good race. At the turn around I started to stride out more to use the wind. The final turn showed my time at 19:25 and I needed to haul ass to break 20:00. Sprinted to the end and set a new PERSONAL BEST!!!!! What would you do differently?: Push harder the last half of the race. It's only 5K. Kill yourself on this next time! Post race
Warm down: MRR had Wendy's chili, fruit, cookies and water. It was a great post race meal. Waited at the finish line to see some of my buddies cross and watched for the 10 milers to finish. Strong performance by the SUX TRI CLUB. Several medals and a few golds!! I took off to get to EJ's bday party on time. What limited your ability to perform faster: Needed to push just a bit more. Event comments: Missouri River Runners always put on well organized races. I love the Spring Thaw. It sets the bar for the year. Starting the year off with a PR and a first time sub 20:00 5K is awesome. Just gotta keep building up for the first tri in 1 month. Last updated: 2014-04-03 12:00 AM

Normal bed time on Friday night. Race wasn't until 10:00 and was located about 10 minutes from my house. Oatmeal with a banana. Yogurt with raisins. Coffee. Morning crap (thank god).
I got to the Riverfront around 8:45. Chatted up with the 10 milers that were going off at 9:30. Saw some of my Sux Tri Club members and started my warm up. about 15 minutes light jogging. Several speed ups. Dynamic stretching. Ready to go.
