Subject: US Triathlon Registration?
Am I required to register with a national Triathlon organization before participating in a Tri?

You will need either a USAT membership or to purchase a one day pass (about $12.00) for most events in the U.S. The annual membership costs $45, so if you are planning on doing more than a couple of triathlons, it's probably worth it.

I'm doing 5 or 6 triathlons this year - only one of them is USAT certified. So, for me I'll just purchase a 1 day pass for $12.

A lot of sprints may not be USAT events. Check with the Rd, or the event website.

^^^^^This X2

Although I always renew my USAT membership. The window decal needs replacing at least once per year.  :-)

Also the OWS we have here requires it for insurance purposes. So between that and races it's a good deal. Plus you get a sticker

If you want to do one triathlon first, just to get the feel for it, you can apply the $12 one day license fee toward the annual membership fee afterward (up to 12 months, I think). You can only do this with one one-day license, though. So if you did two tris before deciding to get the annual membership, you'd only be able to put one license credit toward the fee.
