First sprint tri tomorrow!! Weather forecast is pretty awful. It is currently hailstoning, Little bit excited, little bit terrified. Keep packing and repacking my bag - think I am taking far too much and will probably forget something really obvious!

If I survive I will log in tomorrow to let you know how I get on!

Good luck. Remember it's supposed to be fun, so smile when you cross the finish line, 'cause you're a TRIATHLETE.

Good luck!

Thanks, have looked at this - and added thermals and hand warmers. Trying to think calming thoughts, and hope for a good nights sleeps.

Thanks everyone for your support.

You must be up North somewhere.  Come on down and do some races in NC where it's sunny and warm.  (I moved from CT)  Good luck and remember to smile!

good luck, have fun, and enjoy the day!

Something about crossing the finish line makes you want to go get a carbon tri-bike, so be warned

I did it!!!!! It was hard - but it was awesome!!!
I was quite nervous, not helped by it being grey and windy. I nearly lost it when we got to the pool - I know it sounds daft but I had just assumed we would start in the shallow end so when we were directed to the deep end, and realised they had removed the steps I had a major wobble as I didn't think I'd be able to get in, but with a little encouragement from my friend I did. Swim was hard, and felt very slow but I just tried to keep going. Bike leg, we did 6 circuits, the return leg was right into the wind and very hard work. There were a few incidents - a stupid woman walking on the track plugged into her ipad (it was on a university campus), geese crossing the track, and a guy lost a shoe on the narrowest part of the course just before the turn and nearly took 5 of us out. My helmet was a little loose and nearly got caught by the wind. My friend and I disagreed on how many circuits we had done, so I think we actually did 7 instead of 6. Run was okay, can't believe how good my legs felt for most of the time. The main problem was a stitch/ tight wet trisuit and sports bra digging in ribs.
My friend and I agreed we would stick together and we did, I was weaker at the swim, but better on the bike, she is normally better at the run than me but struggled with cramp so we were slower than we could have been, but we finished. Hurrah!!!!

Maybe.... I thought I'd just feel glad it was over, but I'm still buzzing, and thinking I could have gone faster.

I'm more limited in choice as I couldn't do open water (too terrifying and there are my hypothermia issues!) but I'd certainly think about doing another sprint. They are already planning to run this event in my town again next year and I'd be tempted. Should be easier with little one by then too as she will be in playgroup.

Well done! congratulations!

Given your cold water issues, perhaps your next race should be down south? I'm sure there is a good race in Spain or south of France or something?

Well, if a wetsuit, even a used one, is in the budget, that'll at least take care of the temperature issues. Plus it will make you look super cool. Open water swimming can be a scary thing if you're not used to it, but with more exposure you'll realize that its no big deal and you can cross that barrier off the list.

I was going to write a blog, but can't work out how!!!! Nearly 2 weeks on, and I admit I am still buzzing! I can't believe I did it, that's its over, despite all my moaning and feeling resentful about having to go out and train at silly o' clock, I am missing having something to train for.

trijamie - no way I could open water. I have had serious problems with my swims, and getting cold. I have a thermal rash vest that I wear for toddler swim with my daughter!

I had a serious discussion today with someone about doing a marathon, but have decided on a 10K instead.

I have always been an athlete, growing up playing team sports like basketball and soccer. I also ran in a couple of 10K races every year, so I had no reason to worry about running a 5K...right?

The challenge? The accomplishment? I want to do this because it is an opportunity to live life. The event is an indoor sprint triathlon. I get to experience the challenge on a safer scale.

Should I have time goals for the first sprint? Should I just finish the race at a reasonable pace? I'm not sure how to approach this.

I couldn't believe that my splits kept getting lower! I started to run harder after I passed the "5 km" sign and picked a few people that I wanted to pass.
