I'm a junior duathlete, I just started training and am doing my first sprint in June. I my going to see if I like it, and if I like it I'm going to start training for triathlons. My mom asks me, almost every day "Do you like to run?" I tell her I don't like running however I still do it everyday. Just got me wondering how many people like running versus not like it.

Me too. (well, I do enjoy cycling, but I don't love the racing)

I love running. If I didn't enjoy it I don't know how I could do it almost every day.

Running... ermmmm.  Like it enough to do it alot but if given a choice, I choose S or B.

Although 5:00 AM runs in the spring and summer when there is no wind, bugs, humidity, or traffic is like a slice of Heaven pie.

Running, more than the other sports, rewards in enjoyment proportional to the amount of training invested.

If you dont' run much, then every run is god-awful painful, and slow, and agonizing.

If you run a lot, it becomes smooth and natural, and even enjoyable.

It's different than swimming/cycling where the non-impact makes it less of such a painful and potentially injurious situation if you're doing low volume training but still occasionally go hard.

I've been running 3-5 days a week for a year & a half and I still have to force myself out the door some days. Getting out the door is the hardest part for me. Once I am running, I'm happy.

Swimming is fun for me, but I'm so new to it that I haven't started to push myself to get faster than my current 1:50 min/100 pace. I'm sure once I do that & it becomes less of "doing laps & building endurance" and more of "working hard to get faster", it will start to fall in the running category where I will be less motivated to drive over to the pool.

Cycling is my weakest area & I do very little of it (not all by choice). To be honest, it's the biggest time investment of all three, and with two small kids, a full time job, and a wife that also works full time, time isn't something I have a lot of.

I wish I could like running, I really want to, but I currently hate it

My calf has been giving me fits this year. I started slow with low mileage and did the slow build the way one is supposed to, got to 25 miles per week and re-injured my calf again. Very frustrating sport. Also I just hate the way it beats you to hell. I can go ride 4-5 hours and feel good the next day. Go run 1.5 hours and it just beats your legs to death.

Anyway, I have gotten into swimming a lot this year and am enjoying that. I love the bike and may switch to the full time at some point. I wish I could like the run but right now we are not friends.

Enjoy running when I get into the zone ( maybe 50% of the time)

Love the way I feel everyday because I do this crazy stuff. Love that people think I am 15 years younger than I really am. Love that I can keep up with my Teenage kids. Love that I have no health issues. Love that I have no limits!

X2

Running is almost primal, nothing physically and mentally compares to the feeling of knowing you ran as absolutely as hard as you could for a race.

Swimming is focused, and really challenges the brain to control the body.

Biking feels like a pretty boy in prison.

Biking: Love it! It's what got me into triathlon. I'm always wanting to bike more.

Swimming: Don't love it, but it pretty easy for me to get motivated to go do a swim workout.

Running: It's ok. I would never run as much as I do if I wasn't into triathlons (and I'm only running 3-4x per week).

I started running as a cross-train to cycling, and to be able to exercise when I'm on the road (shoes are a lot easier to pack than a bike). The more I do it, the less I dislike it. But I haven't truly embraced it. Part of that is probably not enough volume; part of it is a recurring calf strain. I would love to be able to put in enough volume to really like it.

Despise running. Boring, goes by really slow, and takes the most motivation to go out and do.

I also personally see running as having the least risk which may lead to my affinity for it.

If you cramp up on a swim or get caught in a current or get overly fatigued or panic, without the proper safety precautions you can drown and you can die.

If you are riding your bike too fast & wipe out or go over the handlebars or if you are riding in the road & get hit by a car or cross an intersection & get hit by a car or fall over clipping in or out & get hit by a car...you can die.

If you get tired or hurt or cramp up on a run, you can just walk. Don't run in the street & you can avoid cars for the most part. Much lower risk factors with running!

I started running in '87 when I joined the Army.

I have hated every single step of every single run I have ever done. That includes when I was keeping around 20 MPW up for an IM.

I just about cheered when doc told me to stop or I'd have to rebuild my knees.

Love biking.

Kinda like swimming.

I love running ,however Running doesn't like me

I really enjoy cycling and it has tided me thru some pretty nasty running injuries.

I tolerate swimmimg , probably because I am still really learning how to do it well having only learned how just over 2 years ago and I know if I don't do it at least 3 or 4 times a week I will never get good at it, I don't dislike it but given the choice I would rather run or get on the bike..

I used to hate running.  One of the worst days of my life was when we had to do a 600 yd run in PE in sixth grade.  Might as well have been a marathon.

But over the years I have come to love running.  I'm not very fast (and never will be), and don't have a classic runner's physique, but I love to run.

I don't have many regrets in my life, but if I had to do it over again, in high school I would have traded playing football & wrestling for cross-country, swimming & track (I actually gave up competitive swimming for football when I started high school).

I definitely was one who got caught up in the running boom of the '70's.  I can still remember sitting in the dorm TV lounge at Purdue watching Frank Shorter win the Olympic marathon.  And I still have Jim Fixx's The Complete Book of Running on the bookshelf at home.

At age 60 my body is starting to creak a bit.  I know I won't be able to run forever, but am thankful and appreciatlive of every morning that I can still get out the door in the morning.

Mark

Not hijacking... but how long have you not been running? Is knee rebuild a sure thing if you continue?

Think this goes to love/hating running (it's a hit/miss for me).
