Cutting Edge Triathlon
71F / 22C
Overcast
Total Time = 1h 23m 59s
Overall Rank = 44/89
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 4/9
Pre-race routine:

An afternoon start time so morning was relaxed. Had a hot breakfast eggs, bacon, sausage, and coffee at the hotel. Did some stretching prior to leaving the hotel.
Event warmup:

Not much other than one short lap in the pool.
Swim
  • 08m 24s
  • 400 meters
  • 31m 30s / 1500 meters
Comments:

People around me were pretty accurate with reported times. I passed the one just ahead of me and nobody passed me.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 1
  • 03m 6s
Comments:

Took my time especially to dry off some and get my shoes on (bike & run in same) but then put my shirt on backwards and it was a little damp and hard to get turned around. Knew I was going to take my time so it was all good.
What would you do differently?:

Put my shirt on right the first time.
Bike
  • 42m 43s
  • 12.6 miles
  • 17.70 mile/hr
Comments:

Heading out was great riding with the wind. Coming back was hard as winds were steady at 20-21 mph with occasional gusting. Pavement got a little wet as some light rains fell about halfway through.
What would you do differently?:

I will be using the aerobars more. First time using them and even then not until I was halfway through the return trip. Actually got comfortable with them relatively quick and did notice my speed increase. So should see a mph increase next race.
Transition 2
  • 00m 51s
Comments:

Walked to rack. Took some water and an ibuprofin and headed out.
What would you do differently?:

Take the ibuprofin while on the bike segment if needed.
Run
  • 28m 53s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 19s  min/mile
Comments:

First race following knee PT rehab from last year. Knee held up good but it took me about 2 miles before my legs came back to me from the bike.
What would you do differently?:

After more training I should be able to get my running legs quicker and time will improve some. Still, not much more I can do with all my ligament tears.
Post race
Warm down:

Just walked around, stretched light. Some H2O and then some chips and a little bit of sandwich.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Knee issues mainly. Also not using aerobars.

Event comments:

Race was started early to beat the impending storms. Post race activity might have been better if the storms wouldn't have arrived. Overall a well organized event with course very well marked either with barricades, tape, and volunteers signaling the way. Will do this one again.

Over the past couple of months I've been waking up with a sore heel. Right in the center, it feels like I stepped on a pebble and bruised it. The pain, fairly minor, goes away as the day progresses.
