Total Time = 45m 21s
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = Men
Age Group Rank = 3/15
Pre-race routine:

Rushed down there, taking a f*cking conference call on my cell phone just so I could make the damn race. What an annoying day.
Event warmup:

Very short run with Ryan and Pete followed by a very short swim.
Swim
  • 22m 37s
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 31s / 100 meters
Comments:

Good swim, pretty much as planned. I wanted to go hard for the first 200, then settle in and get in a rhythm with my bilateral breathing. My extremely scientific determination is that breathing only on one side means I'm probably going too hard for the 1/2 IM pace, so I wanted to see what my speed was when I settled in and got comfortable with bi-lateral breathing. Worked pretty well, and I wasn't that much slower. I still wonder if that pace is too hard for the half, but we'll see.

Run

Comments:

Tried out the super-gay new yellow racing flats. They look stupid, but they feel fast, and what else matters. Run felt good. I went a lot faster than I intended, but I just felt great, so I kept going. First mile was 7:26, second was 7:28, last mile was low 6 something, so I negative split, which is really what I wanted to do. Probably shouldn't have gone quite that fast, this was supposed to be a tempo workout, but I think I was working out the stress from the week.
What would you do differently?:

Slow down a bit, I'm probably feeling good from the taper but I should save that for the race on Sunday.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretching, food, chatting with everyone.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Race on Sunday.

Event comments:

Ricci, where were the burgers this week? I was starving after the race, but otherwise it was a fun night hanging out with everyone and having some beers. The S&T series has been really fun this summer.

With those super yellow shoes, were you singing "I'm Walking On Sunshine" for the entire run? Adam "Sunshine" DeVoe. I like it.

When I saw you on Santa Fe I was going to call you to remind you you were in the slow lane. Obviously didn't know you were on a conference call so it's a good thing I didn't. Apparently conference calls are good pre-race warm-ups though. Anyway, nice run. Glad the shoes felt good!

"Sunshine" Devoe and "Beer B*tch" the Dynamic Duo.

Gay shoes or not you looked really comfortable and fast on the run. Great Race!

What do you mean?  Those shoes rock!  The more obnoxious the better!  Nice race stud.  Maybe sometime I will catch up to you on that swim!
