Ironically I'd just been thinking about the lady who hit the bear during a tri in Colorado when I round a curve at about 25mph and nearly nail two cute fawns on the bike path. One of them decided to save its life at the very last second and darted out of the way or I honestly would have hit him.

Anyone else nearly hit an animal before on a bike? I wouldn't say this has made me want to slow down TOO much, but it has made me wonder what's lurking next to the bike path/roads.

Was one of them Fawn Liebowicz?  Heard she was pretty cute too, at least before the kiln explosion...

LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's AWESOME!!!!

I nearly hit a deer. He looked at me, looked away, looked back and decided to treat me like a car. It was rather amusing to watch it attempt to run on blacktop, though. Those legs were going a mile a minute, but it was moving barely at all. Heehee!

A few rabbits here and there, a lizard, and a little turtle.   Yeah, yeah a turtle.

There is a place I ride where the deer just stand and eat while tons of people walk by. I'd get in trouble if I took my mtn bike and took my bow on a ride...

I also hit 2 deer. That is why the bell on the bike is very useful. Not only does it get deer out of your way but also fans at a triathlon.

My sister and I were riding the other day and just about killed ourselves when somehow a squirel(sp?) got in between our bikes and was running around trying to find a way out . I also almost hit a rooster that same ride.

Stopped once for a turtle in the path.  Felt bad for the little guy so I picked him up and moved him off the trail

Actually, some guy on a bike collided with a deer in Northwest New Jersey (Hunterdon County) this week http://www.c-n.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060810/NEWS/608100304   Tewksbury is in a fairly rural area for New Jersey and there are lots of deer (and other wildlife) up there.

That's it.  Opening day starts in about a month.  I haven't seen any signs saying I can't hunt in the park.  Mmmmmmm, venison back straps with freshly ground garlic and guda cheese.  Nothing says good cardio like muscling 140 lbs. of deer from the cops.

Just last night... I almost hit a deer on the bike path I was on. I didn't see it until I was about 10 feet away. The sound of my back tire skidding, as I slammed on the brakes, frightened him to run off. It looked like he was confused and almost ran back into my path. Scared the crap out of me.

I had a bird fly threw my spokes. Feathers everywhere. I was going over 20mph, so I didn't stop to see if I ended its life, but there were a good deal of feathers. I also see deer all the time on my bike path. Only once has it been close, I had to hollar to get it to move...but it was scary.

I also get chipmunk, squirrels and rabbitts running in front of me. I have had a chipmunk run underneath the bike in betweent he two wheels. Not sure how he did that.

Good thing you didn't hit those fawn at 25mph, even though they are small it might have thrown you a ways as well.

I came on a mature doe in the road the other day. I was riding straight at her and she just stood there staring at me, so I whistled at her a few times and the noise snapped her out of it so that she walked off the road when I was all of maybe 10 feet away. No wonder deer are so easy to shoot.

I've swerved around ducks, cows and sheep.

Oh, and I've swallowed about 10,000 flies

Everyone talks about almost hitting a deer. On an early ride just outside of town last week a deer almost hit me. Came out of nowhere and scared the crap out of me.

I ride a lot in the Tewkesbury area as well with my brother-in-law. The hills in that area are SICK (When you are riding up a hill and see the souls of the dead float by pointing at you and laughing, you know that's one tough hill!) Why is it that we never see deer going UP a hill (at 8-10 miles an hour), but always see them coming DOWN a hill (at 40-50 miles an hour)?
