Comments: In the past I have eaten a gel prior to racing; I tried the Perpetuem instead, hoping for longer-lasting energy. Felt like I was starting to fade in mile 4, so I consumed the gel I had with me. I like that burst of energy to give me a good finish, although it might just be in my mind. What would you do differently?: At one point I found myself behind a group of runners who were running at the pace I intended, so I just hung out there awhile. Then I looked at my watch and saw that their pace had slowed! I'll try to be more alert to that. Post race
Warm down: Brought my foam -roller (travel size), tennis ball & strap to the race. After walking cool-down, while drinking Hammer Recoverite and eating 1/2 Hammer Recoverite bar, did my normal 20-minute rolling & stretching, which I do most days. Includes tennis ball to the glutes, rolling thighs separately (fronts, backs, sides),stretching hams, ITs, quads. What limited your ability to perform faster: Have done no speed work since my injury last fall. I'm happy that my leg & knee felt fine during & after the race, so I feel confident that .it'll be fine when it's time to start adding it in. Was 1 1/2 min slower than previous year, but I feel I ran it intelligently and gave it my all. Event comments: I don't look at my AG rank because I'm often the only one. I like to see how I rank among all women, which was 89th of 150. I shoot for 50th percentile, and in this one was 41st %ile. I'd kind of hoped to break 60min and didn't quite; but the pace beyond which I'd feel really bad was 10:00/min, and I bested that considerably. Last updated: 2014-03-22 12:00 AM
