Sunscreen, people! What do you use? Do you like it? I'm looking for something better. In the past I've always used the Neutrogena sport shield spray on. I really like the spray on for ease of application but I swear that it does not allow your skin to breathe—it's like wearing a giant prophylactic in the scorching sun. Does anyone have any experience with another spray on that maybe doesn't have this greenhouse effect after application?

Bananna Boat Kids spf 50+. Mostly waterproof. Non stinging when it gets in your eyes. Breathes ok, but it's like putting a lead suit on as far as sun protection. I apply once and forget it, and my fair-skinned, bald self is saying something with that.

Bullfrog spray. Works great when I remember to use it...

I use the Banana Boat Sport 50+ lotion usually.  They make tiny spray canisters of it too which I take on my really long rides, but I don't really like the spray on kind because I don't feel it covers as well and is very oily.

I typically try to apply it 20-30 minutes before heading out.

I use whatever waterproof SPF 50 is on sale. I have found that the generic brands work just as good as the name brands.

Recently converted to Solrx Dry Zinc SPF 44 after picking up a tube at a race expo. 480 minute waterproof protection. Put it on once and no need for reapplication all day. Doesn't sweat off or run in eyes and does not wear off in the water or with heavy sweating. I am very fair skinned and burn easily. This is the first sunscreen I have used that I do not have to reapply constantly. It's not cheap and pretty much only available mail order but it is hands down the best I have ever used and I've used lots of them.

Is this Heaven? No, it's Iowa.

Bullfrog SPF 50.  Or any SPF 50 like someone said eariler.

I'm kind of the guy that needs the Magnum quality of protection.  Fair skinned Iowa boys burn really easy.

I have a different routine for daily, but I will tell you what I do for races/long training days in the sun:

I wear Neutrogena Sport Face on my face.  It's the only thing I have tried that doesn't burn my eyes when I sweat. I also wear a visor when running.  I am very pale and my face, in particular, gets too much exposure.   Trying to limit it the best I can knowing I'll still get sun every day.

Everywhere else I use the cheapest spray 50 SPF that I see in the store.  I am really impressed with the Up+up brand at Target.   Works great, when I use it correctly, and doesn't feel weighty.   It can be a little sticky and I am always covered in grit after bike rides.

Banana Boat Ultra defense SPF 30 on my body

Neutrogena Dry Touch SPF 30 for face. It doesn't break me out or look greasy.

We live in FL and use a lot of sunscreen.  Our family uses the Target brand of SPF50 spray.  I like it as its not as sticky as others and fairly cheap in comparison and does well with water.

From Link:

Three of the four top-scoring products in the test were store brands from large national chains. Target’s UP & UP Sport SPF 50 spray had the highest overall score, followed by Walmart’s Equate Ultra Protection Sunscreen SPF 50 lotion. At only $.47/oz., the Walmart lotion was also labeled a “Best Buy” by CR. The Target spray goes for about $1.16/oz.

I use the Neutrogena Sheer Dry Touch 70 or 100 SPF on my face, eats, and back of my neck.

I use Kroger brand spray sport sunscreen (SPF 50) everywhere else. I like that I can spray it on in transition without getting it on my hands (and thus on my bike shifters, brakes, bars, etc.)

I didn't use sunscreen for my first race of the season. It's past the uncomfortable burning stage and I'm now in the uncontrollably itchy stage. The itch is mostly on my back where the lines of my trisuit end. It's nearly impossible to reach, very annoying. It's not fun being me the last couple days.

Does anyone else notice the greenhouse like effect of some sunscreens? From my research it looks like that's a result of the active blockers like zinc as they trap body heat too.

Haven't noticed that. I prefer the sunscreens with zinc oxide as they actually work in wet, tropical conditions and I'm allergic to some other ingredients. I use sunscreen for any workout past 7 AM or so. Normally REI brand SPF 50. I have a Banana Boat stick that I use for my face--it's more of a waxy texture and less likely to come off even if I wipe my face, etc. This keeps me from getting burned, but I still tan with it. Olive skin so lots of melanin and freckles just waiting to happen. I cover up my arms for most bike rides, not races, though--did it for my HIM, but it was too hard to get the coolers on in transition and just feels too hot, even the "cooling" kind.

P20. It's a once a day, waterproof lotion. Supposedly it was developed in Australia for athletes. My wife can't use it, it doesn't sink into her skin, so it protects her, but leaves her very oily. But works a treat on me!

Whatever 45+ spray is on sale. I'm about 10x more likely to actually use the spray then regular lotion. I wear visors on the run too, and just bough some arm coolers for sun protection in the summer... we'll see how that works. I'm 30 and just had my first precancerous mole removed. I'm extra paranoid now)
