Hello all!

Due to recent events, I've decided to bring much of my bike training indoors, at least for a while. My husband is starting a big hiking training schedule and the weekends will be for him to build up his endurance/milage (he is hiking Rim to Rim to Rim of the Grand Canyon). Typically, I'm the one out on the weekends training, but now I need an option while he is out and I'm at home with the kids.

I'd like to get my own "pain cave" set up so that at any time, I will be able to train. Still trying to figure out where to set up, since there isn't much available space in my house, we don't have a basement and the garage will be WAY too hot (Arizona summer).
I have an old Cycleops Fluid trainer, but really want to upgrade.

I'd love suggestions for set up, trainers (preferable as quiet as possible, adaptability for power, use of power meters, Heart rate, software used: trainer road, sufferfest, etc.

Pictures would be great, and descriptions and any info is greatly appreciated!
Thanks so much!

2) Treadmill
3) Elliptical (Wife and kids use it).
4) Incline bench and dumbbells.
4) 50 inch TV.
5) DVD Player and Apple TV for Netflix.
6) TV Tray next to bike on trainer.
7) Mini Fridge.
8) Big fan in front of bike and treadmill.

That is just dam n sexy!!  I love the "Pappa san" chair in the front of the room.

My set up is in my basement next to my walk out basemnet patio door.  Perfect for when I get too hot and want to open the door and it's right below a couple of vents for AC.  I can watch TV or play Xbox / Wii if it works out.

Not much more than that though.

I've got an awesome pain cave in my basement, but for a while last year we had a house guest, so my "pain cave" was on tour. For a while, it was in the baby's room. He loved to crack the whip and watch me suffer. Something about watching the wheel turn would put him in a deep sleep.

Get a commercial type fan which is number one tool for indoor riding.

There are a lot of new brands and trainer that folks like some with power and some without..depends on your budget.

I have a cyclopes fluid trainer and a computrainer which were the preferred brands at the time but for both their are better options.

AMEN!

I fiddled around with a handful until I found one of these at Sam's Club. Works great and I only have to put it on high during the summer when the A/C can't keep up with the heat outside anyway:

I don't see how anyone rides on a trainer without some serious air circulation. Even in ~ °60 temps I'd be cooking within a few minutes without them.

The kids do, I don't.  I don't care how much they sweat.

My daughter whines for a fan, my son makes fun of her.  It makes the time go by faster.

I know a guy who uses fans, but to simulate heat surrounds himself with space heaters. Sealed room.

I was thinking power could very likely take a hit from the lack of circulating air. I know it would mine.

The room is big and the HVAC system vents are in the ceiling......no issue.

These are some serious set ups - I LOVE it! I think my favorite one is in the baby's room!

Is the Kinetic trainer a quiet one? Not like I need it silent, but my Cycleops is pretty loud. I also want to incorporate Power soon, so wondering if the Kinetic is a good one to get.

Show me more...these are awesome!!!!

Kurt Kinetic (any fluid version) or CycleOps Fluid2

Get a yoga mat and put it under the trainer.

It'll sound like a fan on low to medium at the loudest.

I snapped this crappy & blurry shot when I went home at lunch for a quick hour spin. I will get more pics later, but you get the idea.

I have an old monitor hooked up to my MacBook Air so I can run TrainerRoad & watch movies while I'm on the trainer. And if you look closely, you will see my fancy hot pink yoga mat under the bike. No highfalutin bike specific mats for me!

It ain't much to look at, but I assure you that this particular fridge placement is critical for training.

Since I'm no longer in the baby's room, here is my current set up...although this picture is a few months old. Now my basement is also adorned with the Sufferfest flags which adds to the ambiance. I own both a Kurt Kinetic and also a Cycleops fluid 2. Almost everyone recommends the KK, but I personally prefer the Cycleops. You really can't go wrong with either.

Oh, and so no one is worried...I have a fan in front, one to the left, and one to the right that you can't see.
