Total Time = 34m 46s
Overall Rank = 79/136
Age Group = 40-49
Age Group Rank = 12/26
Pre-race routine:

Bagel (whole wheat, PB&J), large coffee
Event warmup:

Pretty chilly prior to race so mostly sat in the car to stay warm. Did a little jogging 15 min before, stretches while waiting to start.
Run
  • 34m 46s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 11m 13s  min/mile
Comments:

3.5 min run/1.5 min walk, last 4:45 running.
What would you do differently?:

Drink some Gatorade and/or eat a banana or 2 before race. Got a bad cramp in my calf. Didn't slow me down but was pretty uncomfortable.
Post race
Warm down:

Walking around, had some oranges & H20, then sat around waiting for awards.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Calf cramp. Also felt like I could have run longer and walked less than I did.

Event comments:

Small race to honor memory of a guy whose nickname was Goose. Mostly local runners who know each other. Very pretty state park, lots of birds but no geese!! Felt a little sore going in because of walking on the beach the day before, but overall, pretty good.

Well, it's definitely easier to PR when it's my 2nd 5k ever and when racing at sea level, but the fact remains that yes, I did get a PR.

Nicely done! A PR and the belief that you could have done more running/less walking. I see even more PR's in your future!

A PR is a PR is a PR!!!  WOOT!

Agree that there are MANY more in your future.

Sounds like it was a fun race, to boot (local flave, honoring a friend, and all).

Congrats!

Matt

In November of 2000, I noticed that I was losing the feeling in my toes. The sensation traveled up my body and within a week, I was nearly 80% paralyzed.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve had weight issues. I remember standing on the scale as a child weighing 60 pounds and feeling fat. My family dealt with stress by eating.
